I just purchased a used Treo 700p without discs. I downloaded and installed the software from the Palm website, but my computer still isn't finding a driver in order to see or communicate with the device. Can anyone help with this? Thank you.
I am getting a pop up error message that says:
Windows could not load the installer for {784126C0-4190-11D4-B5C2-00C04F687A67}. I have no idea what that means, but it sounds like it's part of the problem. By the way, I am on Windows XP. Thanks.

Reason: Added additional info.
How are you trying to connect the PC to the Treo, cable, cradle or bluetooth? Did the Palm Desktop install okay and does the Hot Sync logo appear in your Windows tray before attempting to sync?
At what point is that pop-up appearing? Does that come up when you connect and press the hot sync button?
Maybe you can walk us through exactly what you are doing, step by step?

PS: Sounds like the Palm Desktop software is installed wrong and is trying to access invalid Windows registry keys to communicate with the Palm. Did you select the correct Palm Desktop version to install? Which version is it?

The message comes immediately after I install the software. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, just to be sure, and both times the message has appeared. I get nothing when I press the hotsync button because my computer doesn't even recognize the device.
I am installing the software. It reaches a point during the installation when it tells me to sync my device, at that point I connect with USB cable and my computer says "new hardware found" then it goes through the process of finding the driver, but doesn't find anything, and I can't go any further.
This article on Palm's Knowledgebase may be helpful. This may help as well, it's a Microsoft tool to clean up a failed installation. You'd need to uninstall Palm Desktop, run the tool, then try reinstalling.
