Need Help with Memory Problem
Something has sucked up all my memory. I currently have 5.2 M of free space. Something doesn't make sense:
- I have less content on this device then on my old 650. That only had about 24M of memory and this has 62.8M of memory. That means I should have at least 39 M of free space
- I've reviewed my applications and I should have over 49M free
- I purchased Destaller Pro in hopes of it showing me what was sucking up my space and it doesn't help a bit (I can't see the benefit of this add-on at all...am I missing something?)
- I think that AUDIBLE is the culprit, because when I installed it is when I lost all the memory. But nothing on the lists that show how much memory indicate that this is so. Even if I take it off I'm afraid that it won't help because it says it isn't using that much. I don't want to do a hard reset and have to reload everything. I've already put days into upgrading my 650 to the 700p. Kinda wished I hadn't but I wanted the extra Memory...
Can anyone tell me:
- How to figure out what is using the Memory other the the list on Info
- Has anyone else had this problem with Audible and does anyone have a great easy program to use to listen to books on audio in case I have to ditch the Audible.
:gasp: I feel clueless - thanks for the help.

Well, you can probably move AUDIBLE to the card, not being a user I am not sure though. Are you a Versamail user? Third party launcher user?

Yes - I use Versamail - and no 3rd party launcer.
My AUDIBLE books are on my card. I don't have enough memory on my card to move the 1.4G of AUDIBLE programs onto my card. This is why I got the 700p in the first place so I didn't have to worry so much about memory!:embarassed:
Thanks.

An exceedingly good chance it is your Versamail history file. Versamail has a problem in that arena. Other email applications that work well: Chatteremail and Snappermail (I have licenses for both and use ChatterEmail exclusively).
As for Audible, a larger card may be in order if you are running out of room.

Have you used Filez to see how large your apps are?

I really appreciate your ideas and feedback.
Benjie - about the history file on Versamail. I have my auto-empty mail from trash set at Older then 1 Day and I try not to keep any emails around that are older then one day. I've tried deleting all my emails off and that makes a minimal impact on the Memory issue. Is this what you mean or is there something "history file" wise I don't know about and where do I find it to delete it?
I have a 2G card - yes a 4G card would be helpful - but don't think that's the problem - helpful band-aid however.
Davidra - tell me about Filez please. Where to I get it? How does what it shows differ from the size of the files listed under info.
Thanks again you guys. I find it awesome that there are just nice people around willing to help because they are nice people!!

Yes and that file never is "emptied," or restructured in many cases. Delete it and the problem will be temporarily taken care of - though deleting it means you loose the information. Someone long, long ago said there was an update available (not that long, long ago) and maybe that might be worth looking at. I believe though that another app may be to your advantage.
FileZ - freeware file management - the site - www.nosleep.net - it can live very happily at your request on the card. It is about as easy to use as it gets. FileZ does filtering like a pro and can be your friend. Love that friend stuff.
Anyway, check the ROM box, look around for the Versamail files. Now the bad thing is that I am not a Versmail user. I believe if you look for Mail you will see the files - Versamail itself is found by looking for Versamail.
Good luck.

OK Ben -
I downloaded FileZ. It helps to see what's going on. No real culprit but I've learned a few things - especially that's there is not as much usable memory as I thought there would be. So I'll be picking up that 4G card sooner then later. That will help.
There are a lot of files taking up memory that I'm sure I don't use - but it's a little scary deleting things that I don't know what they are. If anyone has any advise about getting rid of things that just take up space please let me know.
I'm looking for that versamail Ben talked about. Could it be:
MultiMail Messages - 232k
MultiMail Attachment 950k
Thanks,
-
Those are the files. Notice the size of them - the attachment file especially will keep growing until it is bigger than you. As for the 4gb card, test it first to ensure it works on your device - if you can.

Thanks Ben -
I now have about 8M of free space which is enough to function with. In fairness to Audible, their programs only take up about 2M. When I get time I'm going to delete all their programs and reinstall. I'll report if I learn anything new.
If their are other programs that can be deleted without harm please let me know.
My San Disk 2G card works beautifully. Why wouldn't their 4G card do the same?
