New Computer AND Hard Reset on same day!
Hello. I haven't been on this site for a very long time and hate to just pop in for help. But that is exactly what I am doing.
I have a Treo 700p (of course, or I wouldn't be posting here). I had just synched, as I do pretty regularly, because I was taking my 8 1/2 year-old CPU to the computer store and having them build me a new machine (with XP--NOT Vista). I backed up all my data and they converted my old hard drive to an external drive. So I felt pretty confident that I wouldn't lose anything.
My Treo decided to misbehave during the 48 hours they had my computer. They reinstalled almost all my programs for me including the Palm Desktop program--which I use ALL the time.
I don't know how to get the Palm data into the reinstalled program. I can see the data in a folder called KM, which didn't exist in the new computer's Palm folder. So I copied it there. But it doesn't know me as a user.
Should I set up the same user name, set up the same categories, and then try to 'import' the data from the KM folder on the external drive? Plus, in the old computer the Palm program was in its own folder on the C Drive. The new computer has the Palm program in the Programs folder on the C Drive.
I'd appreciate any suggestions you can make. I feel disembodied without my Calendar/Address Book/To Do Lists/Memos on BOTH my computer AND my phone.
Thanks in advance.

I am happy to report that I have it working--although I'm not sure how. I moved the KM folder from the old hard drive into the Palm folder on the new computer (as I said above). Then I told the newly installed Palm Desktop program to create a new user with the user name that I had established. Low and behold all my data appeared on the Desktop. Then I synched the Treo. I had done several hard resets so I didn't think the Treo would know that user name, but it did synch properly.
It did automatically turn itself off and on again, which was one of the problems I was trying to solve when the tech people had me do the hard reset. It is updated with the latest patch which said it was supposed to stop that from happening.
BUT I have my data on my desktop and back in my phone. Onward and upward.
Thanks for listening.
