Default New to Treos and I went and broke it!

Okay, this is our first Treo (700p) and we jumped in without knowing too much about it. We have worked through quite a few issues (just using the thing) by jumping onto these forums and reading, but this time...

I set the phone down and left it for about 30 minutes. When it was picked up again, it was dead and it would NOT turn on. The first thing that my husband tried was removing the battery (soft reset?). This powered it back up, but it never got past one of the initial screens that says "Access Powered." Since he did that, we have "let it sit" both with the battery in and taking it out. I have also tried every reset operation that I can find - even a hard reset. I get to the screen that asks me if I am sure I want to lose my information and I push up to tell it yes...it goes right back to the screen that reads "Access Powered" and it doesn't budge.

Is this something that I am going to be able to get worked through without taking it to Verizon? Are there more things to try? I am hoping that I am just a complete ninny and am missing something stupid, but...

Thanks!

Not sure this will fix it but have you tried placing it on the charger to ensure that it is fully charged?

I did actually try that. I think that we have actually reached the point of giving up and are going to turn to Palm and/or Verizon to see if they have any ideas. Thank you for the advice though.

I am sorry that you have run into the same problem, as we have been told (by Verizon) that there is absolutely nothing that they can do - the phone is no good. They did not offer any explanation as to what happened either. What bothers me now is the fact that I was just going to replace the phone, but if you have had the same problem... I would be interested in hearing if you have better luck in this than we did!

Well, I ended up bringing it in to Verizon, and the tech said that is was a software failure...and they gave me a new 700p. I only had the original one for two months...so it was still under warranty, although I do have the insurance on it as well.

So all in all not a big pain, but I had to reinstall versamail and get everything sync'd up again (so lost about an hour plus of the day...but football was on so I was just sitting here anyway)

Okay, we were looking at new phones to replace the hubbies lost Treo and decided that after using it, there weren't too many that he was going to be happy with now. We went back onto Ebay and bought another one - not from an individual this time AND we purchased the warranty through SquareTrade. My problem now is the fact that this problem, if it was a software failure, would not be covered by SquareTrade anyhow - and it seems to be a fairly "regular" problem with these. Ah... I guess that we will see how this one works out. Heck, the first phone didn't last thirty days and this one's warranty doesn't start for 62 days! lol

I am glad that your issue got resolved. Had I just bought him a new one to start with (thought I would save the money, since I wasn't sure if he would even like it), I would be right about where I am now financially, since I had to buy a second one! Hindsight... :-)

Is there a way to keep things like this from happening? How often should you do a hard-reset? Would that help - like cleaning it up every once in a while? While I have already dove in, I guess that I am a bit worried...

Ok you got a bad unit. Had you bought it from a normal outlet they would have replaced the phone and it would have been done. Hope the saving you got from a ebay sale was worth it.

Wow - that is pretty much what I had said. Funny how it sounds different repeated like that. Thanks; that was very helpful!
