Default New user with a couple of issues...

Hello all! I'm new to this forum, so please bear with me. I'm a long-time Blackberry user who has no knowledge of the Palm OS and I'm having some troubles getting underway. Being a longtime Blackberry user and having been very active on what I would consider the biggest Blackberry forum on the net (no names mentioned), I totally understand the importance of searching before asking, so please believe that I've made a valliant effort to get these answers without bothering all of you, but now I need the experts!

By the way, I am using a 700p from Verizon.


First, I am having trouble synching with my Outlook. Everytime I run HotSync, I get the following Log message(s):

Outlook Calendar
The attempt to open the database failed.
Date Book application database is not found. Please invoke the Date Book application on the handheld once and re-synchronize

OLERR:0D-0004
OLERR:0D-0001
- Not Synchronized
Outlook Calendar synchronization failed

OLERR:15-0002
OLERR:06-0001
Outlook Contacts
The attempt to open the database failed.

- Not Synchronized

I had a successful synchronization of all these PIM functions last night, but now I can't get it to work!


Second, it looks to me like my GMail is successfully synched as a POP3 account, but I can't get a darn email to show up on my Treo. Any basic help here would be appreciated. I know I should be including some more details but I don't know what those should be, I'm sorry.


And finally, I would love to be able to synch my treo with my Microsoft OWA email account, which happens to be my work email, but I don't know how. Using the option of having a computer that is always on will not work for me. Any ideas?


Again, I apologize if this basic stuff has been covered repeatedly, I did try searching before posting. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Believe me, once I become somewhat of an expert like all of you I have no problems spreading the knowledge.

I have a 650, so I don't know if there have been changes that will affect this ...
but you might want to try right-clicking on the hotsync icon in your taskbar, and select "custom." Then, check the settings on the various Outlook categories. If everything is the way you want it in Outlook (desktop), then check "desktop overwrites handheld" for the contacts, tasks, and calendar, and do a hotsync. Once you have your data synchronized, do the same process but select "synchronize" instead. (It may revert to this after you sync.)

Regarding GMail, have you made sure that under "Settings" : "Forwarding and POP" that you have enabled POP downloading?

Sorry, can't help at all with the third question.

With regards to the first issue, thanks for the help but unfortunately it did not work. I made the changes and the Hot Sync log still indicates the database wasn't able to be opened. I wonder what the log is referring to when it mentions a Date Book application database, not being able to find it, and asking me to invoke it once from the handheld. Any ideas on that?

As for Gmail, I do have the POP3 setting turned on and still nothing.

While I use Outlook for E-Mail I don’t use it for Calendar and appointments and such, so I can’t help there.

Assuming you have your POP3 E-Mail set up correctly you should get E-Mail. I could Get E-Mail, but not Send E-Mail until Sprint helped me setting up the rest of it. The Default setting in VersaMail is not quite right. Call Sprint and they will get you going.

The Microsoft OWA Account probably has to use the Web and Blazer to get to it. I have one for my work and that’s the way I would do it. I have not done it yet, and if I do I’ll post my findings.

I had the same problem. This happens due to Wireless Sync not letting you syncronize with other sources. Go to Wireless Sync - Settings - Connection Settings - Advanced Settings and check the Enable other sync apps. This will fix the problem. Good Luck!

I had just posted of this same problem and fortunately one of the other forum members steered me to this post you made in June. It worked and I FINALLY have no more red letter error messages about not being able to update. Thank you!
