    Default New Vista Computer

Fixing to upgrade to a new desktop. Just wondering if anyone has been through changing over from an XP and what pitfalls I should be aware of as it relates to Outlook and my Treo 700p?

I am running an Acer Vista laptop. My suggestion is to buy the desktop or whatever and install XP on it. XP is faster, more stable and has fewer problems installing software/hardware on it.

If you stick with Vista, then you need to routinely disable your virus scanner when installing software and hardware. You need to also ensure the product is Vista compatible and then there is still no guarantee it will work. In addition, when I first started installing hardware (USB) to my laptop, it wanted to look everywhere but the correct place for drivers - if prompted, enter c:\windows and allow it to search the sub folders.

Do I like Vista? It has been stable for me - no crashes. It is not as fast as XP on the previous laptop and it bites when installing some things. However, PDANet works great on it.

    Default New Vista Computer

I still cannot sync my Treo 700p with my new Vista computer. I bought a Bluetooth gizmo, plugged it in and it shows a real pretty blue light. Otherwise, synching with it has been dismal. I've pulled out a lot of hair trying this, and that, and other things. I got the latest Palm Desktop installed even. Still unable to synch. I don't know yet if I want to trash my new computer or the Treo. Can't go back to the old computer, as it overheated and popped motherboard components.

Goodness - you paired the devices, you looked at the hot sync manager and set up what it is suppose to do with the 700P - and it works on my laptop and the wife's new 64bit HP/Vista.

In the for what it is worth, when I was Palm OS'ing, I rarely stynk'd. I did the nightly backup using Resco Backup and moved files back and forth via Bluetooth file transfer. I did it this way due to the impatient part of me that says backing up to the laptop is a waste of time. Now, once in a while I did pop the card out and copy it to the laptop, but really stynk'ing just of the fun of it is not really necessary (unless you use Outlook).

Vista works fine, people that have problems with it, should not own any computer or at least stop watching the apple ad's.

Palm NEVER came out with USB drivers for Vista 64bit, so you can not sync with the USB cable. You must use bluetooth.

    Sync with blue tooth.

On you computer double click on the blue tooth icon in system tray a window will open.

Select the Options tab, check box the top 3 options (Allow Bluetooth devices to find . . . Allow Bluetooth devices to connect, and Alert me when . . . .) Now click on the apply button.

On the phone go to your blue tooth settings (the blue icon)
    Turn Blue tooth on

Then go to hotsync icon Select Custom not Cradle/Cable for sync option. Someplace in there you will get a window where you select blue tooth for syncing I just don't remember where.

Give that a try and lets us know.

BTW it took over 808 sec to sync my phone last time:gasp:
