Default Opera mini?

Verizon 700p user here. I downloaded operamini and the JAVA VM. There were several PRC files to download. Not sure if I downloaded the right ones, but opera is not working. The home page opens. I enter an url. it asks permission to connect. I say ok. The page starts to download and then it automatically goes to my launcher screen everytime. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

From Opera Mini's website:

"Opera Mini is available to all Sprint and Cingular customers. Availability for T-Mobile customers is dependent on the subscription plan. BREW-enabled phones, including Verizon, are currently not supported."

Looks like you're out of luck for now - you're not alone, though - I tried it before I read the fine print and got bumped back to the launcher screen every time. Bummer.

I read that, HOWever, I got it to work!! It works great. I dont think its faster than Blazer though. XIINO seems to be the fastest. For Operamini to work, you have to make some adjustments (I found it in the Opera Forums) to the JAVA VM preferences and then it works. Give it another try. ITs pretty cool!! If you need help, let me know.

What I found searching the Opera Forums:

"Opera Mini will not work on a Treo 650/680 unless you change the preferences in IBM Java as follows:

To get to the IBM java prefs, you need to go to the prefs icon on your Palm desktop, open it, and scroll way down until you find IBM Java.

Clicking on that allows access to making the following changes.

Double Buffering: on
High-res coords: on
Memory Max: 1Mb
Stack Size: 32Kb (use the slider to fill the bar all the way to the maximum 32Kb)

The problem is that the application hangs up on a prompt to sign the user agreement if the settings are not changed in IBM Java. You cannot use OM until you complete that task."

Did this and it worked...hope it helps someone else!

For my 700p I was told by the forum to set like this:

Double buffering: On (checked)
Hi res: On
Memory max: 4mb
Stack size: 4kb

And it worked for me as well. When i first opened it, the memory max was already at 1Mb and did not work. Thanks for the info. Hope our post help others.

I have a Verizon 700P and opera mini works just fine, I just don't see anything that makes it special over blazer.

Well i was using an alternate because I wasn't sure if Versamail or Blazer is the culprit. Im pretty sure versamail is.

I would agree at first about operamini vs blazer until I discovered some cool things. If you notice OM has the bottom "soft" key options, except we dont have soft keys (that WM). But I found out the Phone hard key as well as the q & w act as the left menu option and the "home" button and P & back arrow act as the right menu option. Also the "calender" key and "envelope" key act as a page scroll as well as the left and right dpad keys. So this really helps with one handed operation. The ui looks cool too. Other than that, I don't see a speed difference at all. OM could actually be slower.

The one handed operation doesn't mean much to me, but I can do it via blazer since I have most of the sites I frequent bookmarked.
I hate that Opera requires java to run, and another 3rd party product just to make symbols like the underscore.

One thing I noticed is with certain websites that require Image verification, blazer doesn't show the image but Opera does.
