Phone goes to sleep in middle of a call

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the Treo 700p, but I'm having a problem with my phone going to sleep when the sceen turns off. Currently, my screen goes dim after 30 seconds on a call, and then off at 2 minutes, as per the preferences I set. The trouble is, after two minutes into a phone call, my screen shuts off, and so does my phone.

I can push the phone shortcut button and get back to the call, but as soon as the screen goes to sleep, I lose it again. It doesn' hang up on the caller, but they can't hear me and I can't hear them. If I don't push the center button to unlock the screen, it will go dark again and I lose the call again.

Is there a setting I need to adjust? Could a 3rd party app be causing the trouble? I've only had the phone for a week. It's difficult to have a conversation when you keep losing the other person every two minutes. I suppose I could change the screen saver to 3 minutes, but I don't think this is much better.

Wait, so this is considered normal behavior for the phone to shut down when the screen goes to sleep? That doesn't seem to make much sense. pTunes continues to play when the screen goes to sleep, so why does my phone shut down?

Also, I'm having trouble searching the forums for "always on.", but I think I found a couple of threads that you're talking about. I don't necessarily want to keep my screen on if it's going to drain my battery more, but I do want my phone to keep working when the screen goes into power-save mode.
