Please help... No sound on 700p
Hey guys,
About two weeks ago I switched from the Sprint Pocket PC which was a NIGHTMARE to own due to breakages and other issues. I switched over to the 700p and have been really satisfied with it. A week or two ago, I downloaded Ringo to use MP3 files as ringtones. It expired and around that same time my phone would only vibrate when calls would come in. Now, I have deleted Ringo and noticed that NONE of my sound is working! It is strange... my speakerphone and regular earphone still work but I can not get a single noise from any videos, mp3 files, ringtones etc. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Reuter, welcome to ET. Sorry to hear you're having rouble with your new Treo. Couple questions for you:
Did you install anything else on your Treo besides Ringo? I'm wondering if there could have been a conflict between Ringo and something else trying to manage your sounds.
How did you delete Ringo? The regular launcher's delete option? That could be a problem. The native launcher doesn't always delete everything an app loads on your Treo. I'd recommend downloading FileZ, a free file manager that's pretty popular from the software section here at ET. You can use it to search for any leftover files from Ringo.
Since you don't seem to have one, I strongly recommend your next purchase be some type of uninstall app, like Destaller Pro. Something like that should be everyone's first purchase. As you know now, we're all going to try different apps and might not always keep them after we try them out. They all put files in various places and you need something that's going to keep track of them and get rid of them all when you give up on that app.
As for your sounds, I suggest a hard reset. Here's the page from palmOne's KnowledgeBase on the reset. I have a feeling it will get you straight. Before you do it, be sure to do a last sync, then rename your backup folder to something else. The reset will create a new backup folder (without whatever corrupted files are giving you your trouble now). Hope this helps!

Since I don't have much on my phone anyways, I went ahead and reset the whole thing. Still no sound. Any other ideas?

What are you using to play videos and mp3's? TCPMP? pTunes? Was sound working on vids and music before? If not, it could be you need to download an additional codec.
The fact your speakerphone works kinda rules out a hardware problem. After the hard reset, no change with videos or music is strange, though. How about reloading your player? Did you do that after the reset? Or are you using the version you had from the original backup folder?

Basically the only thing I installed on the phone since purchasing it is Ringo, 3 mp3 files, 3 .mpg files and a few pictures. So I was using the default player for mp3s and videos. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help so far. It's greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking two things...
The first is that Ringo definitely has some residual files left on your Treo affecting your prefs. The regular delete with the palm launcher won't get rid of that stuff. You definitely need to look into an uninstaller.
The second is you brought the corrupted file over after the reset. Did you create a new backup folder and "start from scratch"?
