Default pop & Hotmail email setup help please.

    Hello,

I am definitely a rookie at this, so any help that is posted from you guys would be much appreciated.

Ok, so I have 700P and I am really confused on how I should set my email up. I have a Hotmail account and also a pop account. I want it setup as when I receive an email, it “dings” me, so this way I don’t have to login to check it all the time. I have the email setup book that came with the phone, but I am still a little confused.

    Please help.

    Thank you.

Hello, Saleen. Welcome to ET. I'll try to help get you started.

You'll only be able to use your pop account. Hotmail doesn't support pop forwarding.

What you're describing is "push" capability. ChatterEmail offers this. You may want to look into that. You won't be able to get that feature with VersaMail, which came on your Treo.

So VersaMail won’t "push" my pop email and notify me when I receive a new email?

    Thank you for your help.

No, it isn't true push. With most email apps, though, you can set them to auto-receive mail at certain intervals. If it's really important to you, you can set the time to retrieve to a small interval, like 5 mins or so, if that works for you. Understand, though, if you're not in an EvDO area, you won't get voice calls while your Treo's checking your mail and your calls will go straight to voicemail at that time.

There is an app called Glimmermail that is rumored to work with Hotmail. The site is http://www.sunroomsoft.com/

when you setup the pop email is there an option on the treo to leave a copy of the message on the server so when you go back and check your email on the internet it still in sync?
