| Putting music on my 700p Hello all,
I'm having a devil of a time trying to get music from my Windows Media Player 10 to my Treo 700p.
I followed the manual and even was able to sync. However, I look at the files and they are STILL in .wma format. Even though I followed the manual TO A "T"... it didn't change them to .mp3.
I've tried to drag the files using Quick Install...but again.. since they are .wma, they won't be played.
What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks! |

What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated. | Welcome to ET.com, Tedology. Sorry to hear you're running into trouble. Just want to be clear on what you're trying to do. When you're following the manual, are you converting your music to mp3 format before putting it on the Treo? That's the way to go. If that's what you're attempting and it's not working, and you're doing everything right, is it possible your music is DRM-protected? I convert 99.9% of my music to mp3 format, but some songs I've bought from certain online stores can't be converted.
As for putting new mp3's on your Treo, syncing isn't the preferred method. The best way would be to use a card reader, drag-and-drop the files onto your card (in the audio folder), then pop your card back into your Treo. If you don't have one, card readers are extremely cheap at your local electronics store. You could also use an app like Card Reader, which allows your computer to see the Treo like an additional drive.

| Hi Kdallen, thanks for responding.
Well, I'm not converting it to mp3 first because I was under the impression that by my changing the format to mp3 in the Tools>Options part of the manual, I was doing that?
If I am supposed to convert the music PRIOR to that, how would I go about doing that?
Or... should I just purchase PTunes Deluxe (it allows me to transfer .wma files)? Or should I just spend a day importing all my CDs to the computer again via .mp3 (I don't even know how to do that! LOL)?
I should mention that my collection is in iTunes. However, some of it is in Windows Media Player (those are the ones in .wma). Some are purchased from iTunes, and some are just from my own CD collection.
I don't mind re-importing my CD collection... but when I do, it automatically goes to iTunes and/or WMP... how do I make sure they are imported in .mp3 format and not iTunes or .wma?
Thanks again for helping! |

| Okay... I may have gotten it to work! LOL
What I did:
I right-clicked a .wma file and converted it to .mp3 and then placed my SD card into my computer and drug the .mp3 file to the Audio folder, as per your suggestion.
However, when I looked for it in PTunes... I had do some heavy searching for it.
Is there a better way to use PTunes? Or another more user-friendly audio player for my Treo?
And I can't help thinking there must be a faster way than my having to right-click each of my songs to convert them...that may take YEARS! LOL!
I'm open to advice! |

| Glad you're up and running. Did you put the song in the audio folder or the rn_audio folder? The first one is the one you'll want to put your music in.
As for the converting....you can follow the same procedure, except select all your songs. Either use the drop-down menu on your computer to select all, or shift-left click the first one, use the slidebar to navigate to the bottom of your collections, then shift-left click the last song, and they'll all be selected. If you want to exclude any, ctrl-left click will do that. Then right click and drive on.

| Hi Kdallen,
Yep... I put the song in the audio folder on my SD card... I think I'll just have to get used to the treo's idiosyncracies.
And I think I'll need to do as you suggest with the "select all"... I just need to prepare myself for some time consumption! ;)
Question...when I import CDs into my computer via WMP, are they automatically .wma format? Or can I choose .mp3 when I first do it? Any idea?
Thanks again!

Any idea? | I've got WMP11 now, and most of my music was ripped using RealPlayer, but there should be an option in 10 to rip to different formats. Set it to default to mp3 and you won't have to worry about it any more.
