| Quick question that has nothing to do what everybody is talking about but I don't feel like starting a new thread.
Where does everybody save or install their programs. Do you install them to the device and just use the memory card for pics, video, and other files? Or do you install programs on the memory card also? |

Or do you install programs on the memory card also? | Speaking for myself, I run apps from the card whenever possible. I use ZLauncher, which allows me to move apps (and their associated databases) to and from the card when I use it to launch apps. For the most part, you can run an app from the card unless it has to be in RAM for system interaction, like alarms and clock-related apps.

| Thanks for making a new thread. Thanks for the reply. This is my first treo so I wasn't really sure what's the best way to organize all my stuff. So far I've been putting all my pictures, videos, document files (word, excel, pdf) on my card. I've also been putting a lot of my app. on card. But I realized that sometimes I put it on my card but it's almost like it duplicates it on the device also. I guess that's what you meant by it has to be in RAM for interaction. |

As for duplicates, are the apps actually duplicated or are you seeing shortcuts for apps that are actually residing on the card? You're using the standard Palm launcher?

| I'm using the standard Palm launcher. I use the 'Palm quick install' to hotsync my apps. I just drop it to the card. One example is Resco Backup or Teallock. I installed them on the card. But when I use Destaller, I see two of them. One that is on the device and one shows picture of the memory card. How do I know whether one is just a shortcut or not? |

| Some apps, when run from the card and launched with the standard launcher, actually leave files in RAM after the app has been closed. I avoid this by using ZLauncher, which moves everything to RAM when launched, and moves it back to the card when the app's closed.
For the moment, I'd recommend you download the free FileZ, in the freeware section of this forum. It's a file manager that will allow you to see the attributes of everything on your Treo and card.
And, on the subject of launchers, I recommend you look into some. As I noted, I use ZLauncher (which also has an excellent file manager built in). Other popular ones are Resco Explorer, LauncherX and Initiate. I think you'll find most of them here on this site, should you want to download a trial.

| TealLock and TealBackup - TealLock has to be in the device's main memory in order for it to work. TealBackup has to be in the device's main memory and the Palm launch folder on the SD card in order to work as intended.
