| reset after hotsync Hey there - i've had my Treo700p for about a month now and everytime i hotsync it resets (possibly a warm boot). I don't hot synch frequently, but when i do it just seems like something's wrong when it wants to reboot.
I used to have this problem with previous palm pilots, is this just a bug or are there some recommendations for troubleshooting? I didn't find the Palm site very helpful... also, I apologize if this topic has been brought up before, but I couldn't find it in this forum.
Any help is appreciated
Thx,
Mike |

| Welcome, MrMike. You say you don't hotsync on a regular basis. Are you installing new apps when you do? Many require a restart as part of the installation process.
When you're done with the sync process, are there any clues in the log?

| No new apps Thx for the reply.
The only apps i've installed are those that came on the sprint CD (e.g., docs to go, etc..). Also, I've sync'd about 10 times and a reset after every time... odd.
The last item on the log is "OK Restore"; do you think that's telling my Treo to restore?
Also, I do see a bunch of line items where the gist is "installing XXXX, no XXX to install" (e.g., AddIt - Installing Files No Files To Install).
Any thoughts?
Thx,
Mike |

| Since you haven't installed any 3rd-party apps, I'd guess it's something that didn't fully realize on the initial sync and it just keeps looping every time you sync. I'd suggest a hard reset, especially since it won't be painful without any extra apps to worry about.

| didn't work :( did the hard reset this AM, did the follow up hot sync then waited a while to perform another hotsync only to get the "You now need to reset your handheld computer by tapping the button below"
Also, I didn't realize the hard reset would wipe out my corporate email setup... <darn> oh well. (this is more for anyone else who may experience the same issue).
I'm going to set up the corp email again and maybe I'll just live with the resets after hotsync, they've got to be harmeless, right?
Thx, Mike |

Otherwise, once you get rolling some more with your Treo and have tons of info/apps on there, the problem could be compounded.
It seems you've got something that's corrupted in your backup folder and that's why the issue came back. I hate to say this but...I suggest doing another hard reset... AFTER DOING THE FOLLOWING:
Rename your backup folder to "backupold" and move it to your desktop. It can be found in your C:\palmone\youruserid. This will prevent any old, potentially corrupted data from being transferred again.
Reconfigure your Treo as if you just got it and your sync will be like your initial sync. All your PIM data (contacts, etc.) will come from Outlook, Palm Desktop, wherever. Unfortunately, it's going to require you to set up your corporate email once again. I'm betting this should solve your sync issue. If not, there may be a hardware issue.

| No, not the entire user folder, just the backup folder in the userid folder.
