Default Reset button does not work

I recently just purchased a 700p off of ebay that cosmetically is in great condition. I went to activate the phone through verizon wireless customer service and had a couple of issues. First the ESN that was on the sticker behind the battery did not match up with what was actually in the phone. We finally figured that out after many a try. During this process the tech person had me try to push the reset button with the stylus. Nothing happened when I pressed the button (the button did not depress). So now it appears that the reset button does not work. The tech guy said that this was no big deal as this was the same thing as taking the battery out. Is this true or is there more to it than that. I only paid about $100 bucks for the phone and really don't want to mess with sending this back if it is not necessary. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, removing the battery accomplishes the same thing, just that you gotta remove the case. I drilled a hole in the case of my 700P to access the reset button.

$100 is not a bad device. Good luck with it.
