Ringer works but no voice sound on calls

I can make and receive calls (and the phone rings), but I can not hear the person calling, nor can they hear me. It is not a volume problem. I have done a soft and hard re-set. A colleague tells me her 700w was replaced twice for this same reason and that it is a known mfg defect. Anyone out there heard of this or have any ideas for a weekend work- around?

Have you tried using the "Speaker Phone" option? I've had an intermittent problem for months, where sometimes my handset speaker works, and sometimes it doesn't, forcing me to use the "Speaker Phone" in order to hear the person I'm speaking with.

Another thing that hits people, is the volume turned up? My neighbor suffered four days only to find the volume was set at zero.
