Default SD format reading issue?

i own a SanDisk 256MB SD card. i formatted it on my Treo 700p and I copied some files to the SD card, hoping to transfer them to the notebook. My notebook won't read the SD card. Does anyone know why? Does Palm use another file format that Windows cant read?

A driver issue was causing me a problem on my Vista Home Premium laptop. Anyway, starting with my second SD card, I have made it a habit to format it via a card reader. The Palm would hang up during the format process and hence was not reliable for me.

Ben,

Is it absolutely necessary to format the card first, before using it, even if it's only going to be used in the 700p, and NOT used via a "Card Reader"?

If so, must I manually do so, or will the Treo "automatically" go through the steps when a card is inserted for the first time?

No; the one I purchased last week went from the box to the 700p and is working fine. If it does not work the first time, then the card reader for me has been the better answer when formatting. Ben

i realize that you shouldnt format the SD thru the Treo. It will fail to read on a PC card reader.

So then what's the purpose of the "format" function on the Treo? I guess I'll take your advice, just pop it in and be able to use it, huh?

Thanks,

And if it doesn't, I assume it'll have to be formatted?"Hollywood"

2GB SanDisk card arrived in the mail from the ET store. Popped it in, and PRESTO, yes it seems to work right out of the box.

Never having used one before, I a little confused however. First step I tried, was moving a photo from my Pics/Videos folder on my "home" apps screen to the card.

I "think" it moved, but I'm a little puzzled that the only thing the card says is "Image Directory: one item". The photo still appears in the Pics/Video folder on the apps screen?? I'm assuming the data is being "stored" on the card, and opened with the app? Is this correct?

I then dragged an MP3 from my computer to the Palm "Quick Install", onto the "Expansion Card" area, did a Hot Sync, and HOORAY, opened the card and now it said one item in Image Directory, and one item in audio.

Went to PTunes, and there was the song, opened it and it played! Friggin' amazing ha ha. I love it when stuff works.

Again, I assume all I'm going to see on the actual card, is a "list" of the images, audio etc., etc., and those items will still be "displayed" under their corresponding applications on the main screen?

Is there a way to organize what's on the card into more detailed folders with "names" of each photo, mp3 etc., etc? How would I delete just one thing on the card, if I can't access it??
