I begin my transition from a Sprint Palm 650 to a Verizon Palm 700p this holiday weekend. Not even sure how to go about taking my last hotsynch for the 650 and automatically placing it on the 700p--although, I'd have to imagine it's possible.
Question...does anyone know if it's a problem at all to have the hotsynch software for two different Treo's installed on the same computer?
I don't have any problem syncing my Lifedrive, four Treo 650s and two 700p's so I don't think you will have any problems>
I'm not being negative...but how does someone own, yet even come to USE all that you've got? I see a lot of people on here with like four Treos of all kinds...my question is...WHY? I can only afford to have ONE! ;)
My take on it - I up'd using the last restore when I went from the 650 to the 700p and had a heck of a time for a day. I did though uninstall the Palm desktop before installing the new Palm desktop.
You are seriously better off not installing your applications from your 650 backup - there are differences in the preferences that can cause you problems. Do a one at a time installation - takes time but is much, much easier due to the lack of problems you will have. Make sure you have your registration codes before beginning and ALWAYS install the latest releases of your applications.
There are also some applications worth looking at - the list is somewhere here on the forum. Since the 700p has much more memory, you will be tempted to keep lots of things in RAM. Look at a backup application that restores Java if you plan on using it - Resco Backup does really well. Take a look at Hobbist Software's Reset Doctor & Butler, Northglides On Guard Backup and a third party launcher such as ZLauncher. These applications will enhance the stability of your device. Ben

backed up the folders as described by other above, but decided to not use them
exported contacts, memos, calendar and tasks via Palm Desktop
uninstalled the 650's hotsync software from my PC
re-booted the PC
installed the 700p's hotsync software
hotsync'ed the 700p
imported contacts, memos, calendar and tasks via Palm Desktop
hotsync'ed the 700p again
The people behind CallRec and VolumeCare Pro were even kind enough to give me a new activation code for the 700p--I'm sure because I had just purchased both for the 650 a short time ago. My thanks to them!
I am glad it went ok. For me the only tough time I had was with the 650 to 700p change over because I did it from a restore. And yes, you can sync multiple devices as long as the names are different and if they are the same, just pay attention to the conduit states. Ben
