Default sprint treo 700p update is corrupt!!!!! dont use it. my phone is ruined

i tried the update today at 500pm, about 30 mins into it, the program showed it was almost complete, my phone did a soft reset and then it wouldnt stop. it kept looping over and over. i did everything possible. i resynced my phone i tried the update again, then i did a hard reset. it didnt matter. so finally 1000pm tonight i call sprint and i was on hold for 30 mins. when i get through she tells me the file is corrupt and my phone is ruined. lucky for me she said i do have the insurance so i can just take it in and get a new phone. but for those of you who do not have the insurance get it. the sprint agent said she had been taking calls on it all night so palm is screwed if they have to cover all of those phone.

Download it again. It went just fine on my device. Your device is not ruined and you should be able to try it again. Ben

Ben---you said in three words what at least two hours on hold and incompetent tech support couldn't come up with at Sprint and Palm last night,

"Download it again."

Thanks!!

So if his phone won't boot because the current image that he tried to load is corrupt, how will downloading the file again help?

My phone was in a reset loop until I did a hard reset which erased all of my information on the phone. I did a hotsync right after that and it re-installed all of my programs and data...Bluetooth still sucks...but the update worked.

Well I know an idiot who told me to do this so I did it this morning. I also told a coworker to do it and BOTH our phones are dead!!!!!! This is corrupt. We spent an hour during lunch to get the phones replaced since we used these for both business and personal and were told we have to wait 3-5 business days to get our phones replaced!!! What a bunch of crap. The sad part is....we work for Sprint Nextel!!! "Can you hear me know!"

Ok, things do go wrong though. The vast majority of people have had no problems, maybe one or two. To state that no one should do the update is just plain wrong. I did the update and after re-pairing the Bluethooth devices, was back up and running. So far the ONLY problem I have experienced is an interaction problem with TakePhone and Call Block. I have to now answer a call using the green button, not the middle button - that resets the device.

4Cast did not run its regular time but all of the other alarm enabled applications ran fine. I have had 4Cast not run on schedule in the past.

I also had to lengthen some ring tones to 6 seconds instead of just brief blurbs.

None of the problems I have experienced were any worse that on the 600 that I had MRd on three different occasions. The first MR did not take and on the second attempt it worked.

Seriously, if you have the time, try it again. It works for most of us.

I downloaded it a second time early this morning to see if there was a problem with it and it also opened up with no problems.

The 650 update I did was done via the card - only with the 600 did I do it via cable. Anyway, the file may have become corrupted during download - line noise, environmental crap - whatever. I downloaded it twice (first time no problem and did the install from it) and again this morning - the file was fine.

The update is designed to overwrite whatever is on the device, so redoing it again is not a problem. Copy the Palm folder and its contents to the freshly quick formatted card, placing the card in the slot and it should start again. Bunches of people have had to do it more than once, things happen. My upgrade and most were no problems.
