Default Strange Total Failure

Hello Everyone. I'm searching for an answer here. I've been using my 700P for about 4 months now with no problems. I've only downloaded 2 programs other than the original treo stuff: Chattermail and PDANet. All have been working flawlessly until tonight. I pressed my mail key which activates Chattermail, then the screen read something about having low memory. Then the entire Treo froze and I've been unable to reset it. I had to pull the battery out of the phone because it kept cycling "Access Powered" over and over. I tried to reset it, then hard reset. I held the up key up then powered on with the reset button. It told me I would lose my data, I said "yes" and it cycled back into the same thing, like the ROM was somehow corrupt. Never seen anything like it. I have to go to the store tomorrow and et another one quickly as I rely on my phone very heavily. Has anyone seen this before??

Default Update

Just a reply to my own thread. For those that want to know, I did some more internet research and apparently I'm not the only one who has happened upon this. This has something to do with an errant chipset and there is NO way out of the endless loop. I'm taking it back today for a new one. I guess it happens at random.

Thanks

Big Trace... just got my 3rd 700p today. #2 went into the death spiral you describe above. I got a refurb, but it's my 3rd phone. When this one fails, I'm switching to something more stable.

So hang in there. You'll either get one that will be stable, or maybe go through three like I have in three months and get another model!

Default Got a new one today

Apparently, this is not the first time this has happened as the tech has told me he's "seen it before, several times". That scared me... A lot. I hope this one is better. I hate to waste time and money on something that will be dead in a few months. So far, the wife's phone is fine though, but at this time yesterday, I could say the same thing. At least, 1 press of the hotsync button and about 3 minutes and my phone is pretty much back to normal so I have to say that was a relief. With a regular phone, I'd be there for hours re-programming in names, numbers and contact info. Scary..

Just when you thought things couldn't get worse...

Before I could even send my dead phone back, the replacement is bad! How bad is that! I didn't have the replacement refurb phone for more than four hours and it stopped hotsyncing. Then it lost the SD card, so I had to unplug it and plug it back in.

So this a.m., I sent my dead unit back. Verizon is sending me a replacment for my replacement. Should be here by Friday.

Stay tuned...

Just got my replacement for my replacement. Same deathspiral. First time it became stuck on the Palm screen. Argh!

BT headset loses connection for no reason, and phone likes to restart itself, and worst situation is when the phone app shuts off!

Only provided applications loaded.

Hope this one works as advertised.

O man, I'm sorry that you guys are having these problems. That absolutely sucks!

I have a 700p from Verizon. Your news has me worried--very worried.

The next big Treo release had better be much more stable.

It's my understanding that more than 99% of the 700p's are working just fine. And I hear that from more than just Verizon/Palm.

I hope Palm's reading some of these posts and will put out a firmware update to resolve some of the problems.

But I look at it this way... for 14 years, I've been using Palm devices exclusively. I've done my part. Now it's time for Palm to step up and do their's. Until they do, I will do whatever I can to make sure folks know that there's a small group of Palm owners like myself who feel like they can't support Palm any longer.

You're not alone. I was reading a pretty long thread (a bitch-fest, if you will) over at treocentral.com last night.

Someone on the thread commented that the 700p may not receive any more support because of the 680 and 750. Beats me...I'm relatively new to the Palm Treo community--having purchased my first (650) sometime last year.

I'm with you, though. I hope the 700p gets the support it needs.

I get that nagging feeling sometimes too. Perhaps Palm thinks they can just go along their merry business-model way and ignore those they are leaving behind.

Not a good idea for a business losing market share at a pretty rapid clip. Palm needs to review their history before going forward. What made them good was the concept of doing some small thing (PIM) so well that nobody could do it better.

Now they have to move that small thing onto a larger platform and they are forgetting that you not only will make mistakes along the way, but you have to fix those mistakes to maintain your base constituency.

I don't mind having problems with a device. I'd just like to see Palm move quickly to fix those problems.

Just my $.06 adjusted for inflation...
