| Switching from 650 to 700 So Sprint decided that the headphone jack on my 650 could not be fixed so they are upgrading me to a 700P. Is there anything I might want to know before I try to sync all the files off of my 650 to the 700 ? Like incompatibility of software or any updates I might need to do.
It is supposed to arrive at the repair center either Wed or Thurs so I would like to find out ahead of time before I sync and turn my new phone into a coaster.
I currently have :
BatteryLog
Butler
Converter
Express
HackMaster
MiniTones
Money (by Adarian)
SplashID
TCPMP
TipCalc
Those are all the added programs I am running. And if you can think of programs I might want or need, that would be helpful also.
I also use a FM transmitter, which is why the head jack not working is a big deal, and a Palm GPS with TomTom 6.

| There are a number of threads on this topic. The long/short of it:
1) Get updates for all of your applications.
2) Install your PIM files - that is not a big problem.
3) Install your applications individually. Do not sync the old data to the new device - it may seem the right thing to do, but more often than not, it causes problems.

| Thanks Thanks Ben,
I noticed the sticky and read it but the last post on it was 05/07 so I was just asking to make sure those instructions were currently still good. Palm has a update for the Sprint phones released 06/07 and I was not sure if that had caused any additional problems.
Well I guess when it arrives Wed or Thurs at the repair center Iʻll bring it home and try to get it all set up |

| Hi:
One other thing to consider. If you can, you should start this new phone out without using the jack. From the posts on these boards in the last week or so it is apparent that the jack problem did not stop with the 650.
Don't know if you have alternatives, but you should consider some. For example, if you must use the headphone jack for an accessory, take a look at this adapter that uses the main connector as a headphone jack. It would sure save your headphone jack, but you won't be able to charge or use the cradle and such while using the new jack.
I began using a Bluetooth headset to avoid using the jack and the phone is now almost three years old with no headphone jack problems at all.
Good luck with the new toy.......

| The headset is the one big weakness with the Treo's since the days of the 600. I also Bluetooth extensively to avoid the problem. Bluetooth takes a bit longer for some functions, but it works without stressing the device and all of those wires.
Gosh, about wires. My household is wireless with four laptops that are wireless and Bluetooth. My laptop sits on top of a fan unit and the fan unit has 4 USB extension ports. The laptop has 3 USB ports. I also use a wireless mouse and occasionally a wireless keyboard for the laptop. I still have wires, though none connect to the Treo except for the power connection. Wires!

| Well I live in Washington state now and have found that they donʻt have ANY Hawaiian music stations here, how odd. So I bought a FM transmitter that unfortunately will only work through the headphone jack. I did see the Sedio adapter but I drive truck for a living so with the amount of miles I drive a day and the amount of time I use the mp3 player, I need the main adapter for charging. And I do use a Bluetooth headset, JawBone is GREAT for truckers, and Bluetooth for my GPS receiver. Too bad they didnʻt make the damn FM transmitter Bluetooth.
I did have another question though about the switch. I know Ben said to install the applications I use individually but (and this is where my Palm n00bness will show), how do I know what files are PIM and how do I get old data from like SplashID and Adarian Money to install ? I know PIM are files like your contacts, calendar etc. but, Iʻm not sure how to tell which files are PIM like a program file I know is .prc
And yes most of my house is wireless. My desktop is the only thing that is wired. Mouse, keyboard, laptop, PlayStation 3....all wireless

| The PIM files are AddressDB, CalenndarDB-PDat, ContactsDB-P, MemosDB, TasksDB. The Splash files and Adarian Money files should all have the same naming sequence, but not being a user, I cannot say for sure. The Creator ID tags might be the same, but not always. Ben

| Ok so I get the call from the repair center today and I go get my 700p right ? NOPE ! Apparently Sprint still has a few 650s around, according to the guy at the repair shop, so they sent another 650 instead of the 700p. Damn them ! The guy thought for sure they were going to send me a 700p as a replacement. Oh well. Itʻs a good thing I did not go buy new vinyl skins for the 700 or they would be useless right about now.
Thanks for all the help guys and I think Iʻm going to do a fresh install like I did get a 700. I used to have a PalmIII and everything that I had on that was transferred to my old 650 so there was ALOT of useless crap on it. |

| Uh oh. Well something went wrong . I saved the old Backups folder on the desktop, dumped all the old Palm software, installed the new software and when I went to my old Backups folder to copy my PIM data there was no Address, Contact, Calendar etc. There were back ups of my ringtones, pics, SplashID data and Adarian Money data but none of the PIM. Anyone know where I might find them? |

| Normally these files do not get zapped unless you intentionally delete them or have the conduit set for device overwrites desktop and no information is on the device. These files are NOT kept in the backup folder; instead, they are kept in their own folders under the user name.
