Sync Cable going bad??

I use PDAnet nearly everyday at work. When I'm not online, my 700 is still plugged in because it's supposed to be a charging device as well. Yesterday the weirdest thing happened. I couldn't get it to turn on at all! Of course I freaked at first and did all the steps for the soft reset/hard reset. NOTHING. Thought maybe my battery went bad. It was strange because it had been working fine hours before (I have alarms set for daily things) all alarms worked first thing in the AM. Long story short, when I plugged it in to the normal charge cord (directly to an outlet) it immediately started to charge. Does this cable go bad??? Has anyone experienced that before? I know it is a very slow way of charging your device, nonetheless I've been using this for months and months and have never had this happen before. I'm replacing the cable, they are extremely cheap (strange enough).

Sync cables are the bain of the Treos and have been since the days of the 300 and probably before. With the new style being used, normally cleaning the contacts with a very, very light abrasive (erasure) does the job and possibly pulling the contacts out just a tab with a needle to ensure a better fit.

The 650 and up series are much better cables than the 600 and below.

Also if you are charging from the USB port, the charge rate is substantially slower than off of a regular charger. Ben
