    Default Synching Problem with 700P

I have had my 700P now for a while and something that is starting to become a more frequent occurance is when I plug my Treo in my synching cradle, it will not connect with the computer.

I can't come up with a rhyme or reason for this. Even when I plug the cable directly into the Treo it sometimes will not make a difference. I restart my computer and the Treo and again, sometimes that does help, sometimes not.

I'm on the road all day so I'm in the office to synch in the morning and it gets frustrating because if I don't get it to synch, well, then I'm on the road all day with outdated information.

Does anyone have experience with this? Can I buy a better cradle or better cable?

There is good connection between the cable and the USB outlet. It seems to me that sometimes the cable doesn't seem to make good connection to the bottom of the Treo. Does the bottom go bad at times?

Well, if you have any advice or options, please send them my way.

Unfortunately, this is one of those issues that has been around for some time. I'd call it a structural design flaw. The connections seem to always be poor and will be until something's changed.

One way you might be able to avoid it is by using bluetooth sync.

Palm should really dump the "universal" adapter and join the rest of the industry with mini-USB.

I agree. My 5mb camera is 5 years old and it has a mini-USB connector - very convenient when it comes to moving things around. Ben

Well, that was not what I was hoping for but I love the palm over BB or Windows...so, I guess I'll have to stick it out for a bit.

Although I've owned this for a long time, I don't know how to do a bluetooth synch, is there a simple explanation? Do I have to purchase software to complete this? Presently I work on a Windows ME machine and I use ACT as my PIM.

Anything else you need to know?

Here's the page straight out of Palm's knowledge base. The short answer is no, you won't need software, but may need a bluetooth adapter.

I sync exclusively using Bluetooth and though it is slower, it is just so much more convenient. The thought of another cable is really not what I want. My 700p has seen a hot sync cable once in its life and the only other cable it ever sees is the power cable.
