Sometimes I have this problem where I have to do a hard reset in order to be able to recieve text messages. I called Sprint they said they did a few things and it was working great. Now I am back to square one where I have to do the hard reset in order to get my texts. Has anyone had this proble or any ideas what it might be? Is it the phone or Sprint?

Are you actually doiing a hard reset (which wipes out all data on your Treo) or a soft reset (sticking stylus in hole under battery cover)? I have Sprint and experience the same problem from time to time. Occasionally, I believe it's been my Treo. More often, it's been Sprint (my girlfriend has the same problem, and we've both experienced it to some extent since before getting Treos).

I do the actual hard reset. I sync before I do and then just take out battery and let everything restart. I just hate the way they call it a smartphone and it keeps messing up like this. The thing that really gets to me is that I do business with the messaging sometimes and at times I don't get messages. Have you done the software update on palms website? Did that help any if you did?

Ok. Taking out the battery is the same as pressing the detent with your stylus. You're doing a soft reset. If you'd done a hard reset, the phone would look and act like it did when you took it out of the box. There would be nothing of yours on it.

I understand your frustration with the text messaging, though. I use it for work, too. The threaded text messages work well, though, to try and figure out if I've missed a message or two. The conversation will look out of whack. If no messages are going back and forth at all, though, it can be hard to diagnose.

And, no, I haven't done the update. I've decided to leave well enough alone and live with what I have.

Well thanks for yout thoughts. Actually I'm on the phone with them right now. Yeah the hard reset is the one I do I just didn't want to explain all the steps. I have the problem to where I get no messages what so ever. It's like out of no where they stop. I do the hard reset and then boom the phone blows up with messages.

Out of curiosity, do you have a large message database? Could you have a corrupt record in there somewhere? Have you tried deleting your message database from the phone and computer?

I don't know if I'm gonna hold my breath on that one. I think the situation due to Sprint's proprietary way of handling text messages is one of those things that will always be there.

You have to apply the update. This has been an ongoing problem with Sprint and its old 700p. If you have a Sprint 700p that is 1.08 then you need to go to the palm website and update it to 1.10. The ROM update fixes the Text message problem.

Or you could take it to your nearest Sprint store and have the Tech support add the ROM update. Either way it will take about 30 minutes.

That's true, text messaging is one of the thing the ROM update was intended to address. The only catch is, the problem is sometimes a Sprint issue, as opposed to a 700p issue. So, while it could eliminate a lot of problems, it won't be a 100% solution for someone who texts a lot.
