Treo 700p keypad typing wrong characters Help??

I have a sprint treo 700p that all of a sudden started typing wrong characters. eg. it types K when I press the back space key, the space key will type f, the j key will type enter etc. It seemed to happen overnight. It was working fine the night before but got messed up in teh morning. I tried a hard reset but still have the problem. can someone please help??
BTW. I did do the 700p to 750p upgrade not too long ago. I dont know if that could be the culprit?

When I read the opening, I thought that perhaps you got your Treo wet? But then I saw what you "upgraded" and you asked if that could be it?

This is going to be a tough one because any time you hack a device, and it sure sounds like making a 700p a 750p qualifies as hacking a device, you are messing with "known" stuff and making it unknown. First of all I will assume you meant a 755p as I believe the 750 is Windows. Who knows what this upgrade really changed? Can that be reversed to see what impact that would make? I wonder if a Zero-Out Reset would restore to original? If a ROM change was involved, probably not.

I do know that dirt caught under the edges of a screen or a poorly placed screen protector caught under an edge can create problems with keyboard input. I thought it usually doesn't type at all as it "thinks" the screen is being tapped so keyboard strokes are ignored. I suppose it could be partial and maybe make wrong entries. Certainly worth a look. Take a stiff piece of paper (file folder) and slide under the screen frame and the screen. GENTLY slide around to loosen and displace any dirt.

I hope something helps....And no, I am not a fan of hacking devices. But that's me!

The upgrade cannot be undone. It is highly unlikely that dust will do the key thing, it normally gives problem with the digitizer recognizing bunches of things. Water/moisture can be a problem.

Since you upgraded the ROM in the 700P to the 755, you may have a problem with insurance replacement

Thanks for the replies. moisture is probably not an issue since I never got it wet. The upgrade might be though. I was hoping that there would be someone here that did the upgrade and had similar problems. The really odd thing is that the problem seems to go away on its own accord and then reappear?? I was having this problem yesterday but today its alright. Seems intermittent. I had a backup image that I restored using nvbackup but that did not fix the problem initially. I do not know what caused it to get fixed on its own but I'm not complaining. I read the super long thread on treocentral about the rom upgrade and out of hundreds of people noone mentioned a problem like I'm having. Hopefully it will go away as mysteriously as it appeared.
