I just noticed there is a listing for a Sprint Treo 700P on ebay for $279.00!!!

The seller is an authorized Sprint dealer, and has many good reviews from past customers.

Too good to be true? What could this be?

I'd say so. Give them all my credit info and "hope to be approved"? No, thanks.

I called their customer service number and asked how all this worked. The advice below is for adding a phone to a current plan.

The gentleman said the phone is shipped next day for free (as stated in the item description) and the cost of the phone shows up on your next Sprint bill. He said no changes could be made to the phone until the first bill did appear. I repeatidly asked him about adding to a current family plan for $10 and he confirmed, but only if there was another phone approved for that plan. The only thing that sounded a bit sketchy was when he told me that if any changes were made to the phone (plan change, etc.) then I would be billed for the regular price of the phone. I'm a bit confused by that... He did mention that he is an authorized Sprint dealer and has 3 stores in the New York area. I searched the name of business on BBB, but nothing good/bad shows up.

Does anyone know about any types of scams like this? Or is this guy somehow having the phones he buys from Sprint sent directly to whoever buys them online/phone?

Sprint isn't a member of the BBB either as Shady just discovered in this Thread

I am not implying that this guy is running a scam, just that Sprint for whatever reason is not a member of this Org and I found that odd . . .

Well, I took the plunge and ordered the phone after contacting a few people who ordered from this Ebay retailer. I was fearing the worst, especially because the process was so easy.

After ordering the phone on Monday, I got a message from Sprint on Tuesday notifying me of a new charge on my account. The charge was for $249 and would show up on my next bill. The phone was shipped UPS next day, so I picked it up today after work. The phone actually was sent DIRECTLY from SPRINT!!! It had my new phone number on a sticker outside the box, and on the invoice that was inside the shipping box.

I added this phone to a family plan that already had 4 phones, so this line was added for an additional $9.99. I called Sprint and made a few changes to my account to accomodate the new phone, and that was that.

So, it sounded sketchy, but I would totally recommend visiting this ebay retailers listings if you want a new Sprint phone.

Offers for this phone with new activation are now showing up on eBay for as low as 79.99.

I purchased from this ebay seller also. Great service and great price.

I got it from him because all of the other ebay sellers do not take sprint or nextel customers except him. I switched from nextel to sprint so it is a breath of fresh air from so-so nextel service.

I got the phone for a lot less then the $279.99 as advertised. Before taxes it was $220? (not having the bill in front of me) Too bad my corporate discount doesnt kick in until the next bill.

The only thing I didn't really like was that you HAVE TO LEAVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK TO COMPLETE THE ORDER.

I use boost mobile now to keep in contact with those who are hooked onto nextel. $1 for the whole day when I use the radio is okay. People see me with the treo 700p & an i870 are stunned and impressed. Excellent conversation starter with others.

If there was a Treo with push-to-talk, I would go back to nextel in a heartbeat. One can dream
