| Treo 700p Questions I've just purchased my first Treo, and already in love with it! I've even managed to correctly Bluetooth sync it with my Macintosh without any additional software. I do have a few other questions though, I hope someone can help!
1. How do I disable the feature that locks the phone when it has been inactive for too long? I hate to pick it up in the car and see that I need to enter my password to wake it up.
2. Is there a free application that will check and erase any unnecessary files? When I look through my applications, I have quite a few Apps with TEMPInstall in the name. Can I delete the Quick Tour program too?
3. Are there any free or inexpensive applications that you can't live without? Let me know!
Thanks!
Pete |

Try going to prefs / keyguard / auto-keyguard, and you can select disable from the drop-down menu. It's a manual work-around which you'll probably want to reverse if you plan to carry your Treo in a pocket. Quote:

I wouldn't recommend you try it at this point. Although the process doesn't seem to be as hard as it once was, or as irreversible, the possibility still exists you could make your Treo a really expensive brick. It is possible, however, to make it so that you don't have to see the icons all the time. One way to do that is with a 3rd-party launcher like ZLauncher, LauncherX, Initiate, etc. These aren't free. A free way is with an app called Obfuscate (I believe there are others that also do this), which is available in the freeware section. Quote:

Let me know! | If you haven't already, I recommend reading the sticky threads at the top of this forum, especially this one, which will give you an idea of which apps some of us find invaluable on our Treos. You can see the apps I use in my signature and descriptions and links can be found in the sticky thread I just mentioned.
Also, check out ET.com's freeware section. There are some pretty nice freeware apps available and it gets updated constantly.

| This is mentioned in the sticky threads, but I thought I'd say it again here:
I highly recommend the very next thing you put on your Treo be Destaller or some other kind of uninstaller app. Otherwise, as you're adding/deleting apps, you'll end up with all kinds of orphaned files hanging around on your Treo, which could cause you headaches down the road.
The next thing I'd recommend is a good backup app. This way, in the event you screw something up (we all do, even unintentionally), or an app screws things up for you, you'll have a good backup from which you can restore your Treo to a previous good point.

Out of sight...out of mind!
