So tell me Chris . . . . . Has the new worn off that "W" yet? Are you ready to change carriers once again to test drive the "P"?
I'm waiting in line at Sprint right now. Seriously, I'm going to get the 700p as soon as it is released. The 700w will then be passed on to my wife. I had planned on giving her the 650, but I haven't been able to loosen my grip on it. I have too much stuff installed on the 650. I thought getting a Treo meant I didn't have to carry more than one device. Just last weekend, I left my house with my Treo 650 w/ TomTom, Treo 700w for calls, Jabra JX10 (just finished testing it) and my trusty iPod. I did leave my PSP at home. Not exactly the one device solution I had invisioned.

I'm sure that on May 15th, Mark/Space will release an ActiveSync solution for us mac users.

-Chris

I am looking forward to your reviews of it!!! As I have stated, I like the fact that Most current Palm Apps should be compatible!! With the additional Memory/better Camera, it sure sounds nice!!! I just hope a GSM version is on the horizon!

Given that I succumbed to Compulsive Convergence Disorder only a few months after buying a new cell phone, I think even hinting at upgrading to the 700p next month would put me in grave danger to life and limb. So I will probably be sticking with the 650 for a while yet.

I have a Samsung i500 and am looking to upgrade to a Treo - since Samsung does not see to want to update the i500. I need the PDA function for my calendar (that syncs with my office computer); email access and of course, the telephone function. What benefit is there to 700P versus the 650? Thanks for your thoughts

The 700P should have quite a bit more memory. It should have a better camera. It should be more WiFi friendly. It should still run all the Palm 650 apps that are out there. It should have the 320X320 screen that the 650 now has. I am baseing this on a thread on another forum where a guy actually had one in his hands for a few days. The unit looked pretty identical to the 700W.

and don't forget, it will be EVDO capable - which is the high-speed, dsl "like" network for Sprint. Verizon has something similar.

Unfortunately Palm killed the Palm OS and the future is Windows Mobile. The only thing that could possibly save it is that new Japanese company creating something new, incredible, and licensed to multiple phone manufacturers. Palm management has done a great job of killing its OS and soon, it's hardware with shiite like a 32MB Treo 700w.

Palm OS is far from dead. It may not be called Palm, but there are multiple companies in the Bay Area working on the next gen OS. The new OS will multitask, robust memory management, and add many features. (and yes, backward compatible with all are apps now.)
I am an ASIC supplier to one of these companies building hardware and the demos are pretty amazing.

*if* the 700p is for sure (which according to the various Sprint people I've talked with over the last few weeks have all but produced a physical unit), then I may consider one. Being a brand new Treo 650 user (been a Palm/Pocket PC user since 1996), the extra RAM and EVDO would be the only two lurable options for me to switch so soon. So far, I'm pretty happy with the 650.

So we'll wait and see what it brings and if it's enough for me to do a swap out. Personally, I'd rather have something stable and my 650 is pretty stable.
