I followed these steps perfectly. Thanks so much for all those who came before me to share this wisdom.

Using Audacity and following the original author's steps, the only issue I have is that when I click the icon by the file in my email and "Select viewer" (either voice memo or sounds, I've tried both) it doesn't get to those programs. I go to the program and it isn't there. What am I doing wrong?

I have used Verizon for years and this is my first phone I can't easily download ringtones for. It makes me sad.

I downloaded Audacity yesterday to put my old ringtones on my new Treo 700p. They transferred over, however, they transferred into the "Sounds" application and not into the voicerecorder application. How can I get this to change? In the sounds application they show up but they do not play music.

Any suggestions on how to change this and get them to play? I had also saved them on my SD Card, but they will not transfer over.

    Thanks!

I have elected to go with the software Ringo Pro on my Treo 700p and it is working flawlessly! I am using Audacity to trim the songs (as per the original poster's instructions), then saving them as MP3 files on my external media card. I love it and find the cost of the program ($29.95) is well worth it.

hello all. new member/old treo owner here.
i'm currently using a 700P and i decided to try this ringtone creation thing out when i read this thread. used audacity and created the .wav file and emailed it to my phone. i use wireless sync to get mail to my treo and i use the 'mail' program on the treo. anyway, the email i sent had the .wav attached, but it showed up on the phone as a file called winmail.dat
i selected the option to download the file but then got a message that 'the attachment viewer not initiated or installed. Please verify that you have the appropriate viewer for this attachment type.'
    what can i do here?
    thanks in advance.

Audacity does let you edit the file, though it takes a bit of playing to understand the steps. An easier application is the desktop companion to RingCare; check it out at www.gotreosoftware.com.

If I have bunches of files to do (not too often), I use Audacity to make them and then Switch to convert them en masse. If I have only 1 or 2 to do, then I use RingCare Desktop.

If I have one or two files to work on, I use RingCare Desktop (www.gotreosoftware.com). RingCare Desktop also does a good job editing the files. If I have bunches to work on, then out comes Audacity (I use the free release) and then convert them en masse with Switch.

What application are you playing them with?

    4. Figure out which 20-30 second part of the song you want to use as a ringtone. Highlight that part by click dragging in the display window. It will highlight that portion. Once it's highlighted, go to Edit, the hit Trim. You'll just have the portion of the song in the display window.
    5. Go to Edit, then Preferences, then Quality. Change the sample rate to something low (like 11025Hz).
    6. Go to File Format, then Uncompressed Export Format. Choose "WAV Microsoft 4-bit", and hit OK. The small window will close.
    7. Go to File, Export Selection as WAV. The popup window will give you name choice (make sure there are no periods in the name) and the type should be WAV. Save it wherever. I put it on my desktop since it would only be there a short time.
    8. Email the file to yourself.
    9. Open your email on the Treo and download the attachment. You'll get a popup window on the Treo saying it can support it, do you want to install. Hit Install. It wil put it in the Voice Memo app.
    10. Open voice memo, highlight the song, hit the menu button. Under Voice memo, the bottom choice is Copy to Ringtone. Select that and it will show up in your tones.

Does it have to be .wav or can you also do the same thing with mp3?
