So here is my question, is versamail just the "mail" program that comes on the 700p? or is it some other program i have to install myself? | Well, congratulations on getting your first Treo. You're right, it's the email application that Palm includes on all Treos. Many people use it and it suits their needs fine. To use it (or any other mail app), you have to have an acct that is accessible by pop or imap (the 2 most popular types of mail forwarding platforms). Some mail providers, like Yahoo, charge for this. I know Yahoo is $20/yr, because I have Yahoo. There are some free ones. I believe gmail is free, and there are others out there, as well.
Having some type of email app allows you to use your Treo like you would a PC or Mac. You can then use embedded links and download procedures and so forth.
Have you had any more luck with gmail?

| Hey there... read the tutorial and it is great! I found it easier, though, to simply Bluetooth the file to myself.
So if you have bluetooth somewhere, use that!
I'm having an issue with file size, though. I am using Audacity to take about 15s of a song and use it as a ringtone.
Problem is that the file is always 723k in size, even if I go into "edit" and alter the quality to 4400, or even 1000 kb/sec.
Not sure why this is happening. Anyone??? |

| is the song about 30 seconds long? i get my ringtones at Nextel Ringtones :: Sprint Ringtones & Wallpapers for Your Phone Webjal Myjal Tools the ringtones are mp3's and about 30 seconds in length. That website has a good selection of songs & one of the few free ringtone sites that have stayed around. convert the ringtone to a wav and it should work. my trio will be here today or tomorrow! Currently I have Nextel and use a program to upload the ringtones to the phone. Quote: |

| I downloaded Mring tonight but after getting this tutorial working I am happier using the palm & uploaded ringtones.
I email about 4 files at a time totaling a mb or so. Click to the file, right click the file with the 5 way, click select viewer then under viewer click voice memo, click view, accept the file by clicking yes, play the file then copy to ring tone then delete the wav in the voice memo. After the first wav is done goto the email & just click the ringtone & it sends it to voice memo.
Also ringtones sound distored in the voice memo - BUT they are nice & clear in the sounds area.
The ringtones are stored on my card automaticly under the audio file & alphabatized in the ring tones area!
I tried copying a ringtone directly into the audio directory & it did not work. Being able to copy 4 tones at a time makes things much faster.

| Hi.
Thanks for all the advice on how to setup ringtones. Unfortunately, I just got my treo and it must have some kind of upgraded software, because it won't let me install any wave file over 64k. I finally got a file small enough...1 second of a song lol. Am I the only one with this restriction, and any ideas around it?
EDIT: I found a work-around! Get Resco Explorer...it's the PALM version of Windows explorer and lets you see all files! Place wav file from your computer directly onto your SD card. Navigate to the file and click it to open it and it will open in Voice Memo.
I am having the same problem with the limit to 195.4k. BUT GREAT AUDIO! Wonder how to get around that limit...

| Tried, but failed.. KDallen,
I followed your instructions, and it worked until the email (with ringtone) got
to the phone. I emailed myself the 1MB ringtone and, of course, the email
was truncated. So, I downloaded the entire email. When I clicked on the WAV
file attachment, it didn't give me a prompt or anything.. it just "converted"
for a minute or so, and then every time I clicked the converted font at the
bottom of the email, and it brings up a WAV player with no way to save file.
Do you have any ideas?
I also have the same 30-sec song file in 3 formats on my SD card.. one in
mp3, one in WAV and one in AMR format. How can I get the AMR off the card
and onto the phone where I can use the ringtone?
thanks,
Kitster

3. Hit stop. You can't edit a song while it's playing.
4. Figure out which 20-30 second part of the song you want to use as a ringtone. Highlight that part by click dragging in the display window. It will highlight that portion. Once it's highlighted, go to Edit, the hit Trim. You'll just have the portion of the song in the display window.
5. Go to Edit, then Preferences, then Quality. Change the sample rate to something low (like 11025Hz).
6. Go to File Format, then Uncompressed Export Format. Choose "WAV Microsoft 4-bit", and hit OK. The small window will close.
7. Go to File, Export Selection as WAV. The popup window will give you name choice (make sure there are no periods in the name) and the type should be WAV. Save it wherever. I put it on my desktop since it would only be there a short time.
8. Email the file to yourself.
9. Open your email on the Treo and download the attachment. You'll get a popup window on the Treo saying it can support it, do you want to install. Hit Install. It wil put it in the Voice Memo app.
10. Open voice memo, highlight the song, hit the menu button. Under Voice memo, the bottom choice is Copy to Ringtone. Select that and it will show up in your tones. | |

It's not the same (different company, far as I know) as an app of the same name for recording memos on palm devices.
