    Default I'm confused,,,

    Thanks kdallen -
I followed the link you gave in response #5 of this thread where you said " A freeware sound editing app. You can get it here." This takes you to the Home page for audacity. I clicked the tab for downloads and all the other os's were listed. Then I noticed the search bar in the upper right corner of the page and I did a search within the Audacity.sourceforge site for "Palm OS" and found the link that mentioned for the other product - it's called Audacity DVR. Here's a copy/paste from that page... But other than this I can't see anything for the Palm related to Audacity on this site.

    Links

Other Things Named “Audacity” (not related to us)

    • Audacity DVR is a digital voice recorder for Palm OS and Treo handheld computers
    Any other suggestions?

I appreciate this forum and people's availability and willingness to help.

Let me be sure I understand you, stebro. You're looking for a way to edit on the Treo? I'm not aware of any app that will do that for you.

    1. Open Audacity.

When the threads got to #4 someone asked "what's audacity and where do I get it." That's where I'm at - the instructions you gave in thread #5 left me confused. What I want to do is make a ringtone from an mp3, and if Audacity is the tool to do that then that's what I want, but I still don't know how to get it - for a Palm 700p.

It's not something for your Palm. It's for your PC, which you use to edit the music so you can then use it as a ringtone on your Palm.

I'd made that thread after many people were asking about ringtones and it was implied from the previous conversations we were talking about a desktop/laptop program. I should have specified that, sorry.

    I'll edit that original post.

Just to jump in, I have been using Audacity for a few years now. It is a great app for editing sound files. NOT just MP-3's. Here are work, we recorded a siren, dropped in Audacity, and then hooked up a mic and did a voice overlay. Used some of the onboard effects to fade in/fade out. I also use it to edit MP-3's for my band for online samples.

if it wasnt mentioned in this thread , i would even suggest copying your wave file to itunes and right clicking and selecting convert to aac...
    will make the file smaller

    itunes settings i use
    edit--> preferences-->advanced tab
    importing tab
    setting custom:
    stereo bit rate, 64kbps
    sample rate: auto
    channels: mono

then use numerious uploaders on the web
    one being
    sprintusers.com
go to focus tab, will send m4a file to phone (aac file)
will download right where your ringers are

then u can use filez to uncopyright the file and share with friends, via beam, versamail

noobie here and I'm having problems still. I got the tone down to 700kb and it still will only play the first 2 sec. Any advice? Is there a way to get it straight from the SD card? I DL filez but don't know how to use it. When I go to the card on the 700p it shows nothing. I am coming from a ppc6700 so I have a learning curve for sure. I love the screen on this thing and would like to keep this instead of going to the 700wx. However if I can't figure it out I may have to switch. Any help please?

When I was doing my own ringtones, I never really ran into the 2 second problem so I can't offer any advice. I'm using LightWav Pro for my ringers now. Maybe someone using this method can jump in?

Yes, because I'm not actually using tones, I'm using portions of the mp3's I have on my card. LW allows you to pick a start/end point in any song that you already have.
