I am new here and very thankful that you are all here to help me. I have followed the instructions to the letter, and have gotten my file into the Voice memo and converted it to a ring tone. The file appears in my sound list, with the .wav after it. I select it, but it doesn't play at all. Any suggestions?

Hi there I'm new and ive been trying to find a way to download the files without using the email method because I currently don't have web service so I am curious how to bluetooth the files to your treo? which Ive seen mention of on this thread. Also where will the files end up once you recieved them? I have experience bluetoothing from one phone to another but when I have had tones sent to me by friends they go straight to my ptunes and I don't know how to set them as a ringers. Any help would be great, thanks!

    Default great alternative solution

i downloaded the freeware "MiniTones" and it works great!!! you can upload any mp3 from your computer onto a SD card in your Treo. then, you just cut out ("trim") the part of the song you want for you ringtone and "add" it. presto, it appears in the list of tones. great freeware!!!

    Question

I finally got it to work after quite a bit of effort and with the help of a lot of other posts on here. Anyway, to help others, here are the steps I took for anyone else having the same problems (I have edited some other great intructions I found on this site). Again, to everyone that helped - thanks very much.

    1. Download a freeware program called Audacity to your PC. Open Audacity on your computer.
    2. Open up whatever full mp3 song you want to convert.
    3. Hit stop. You can't edit a song while it's playing.
    4. Figure out which 20-30 second part of the song you want to use as a ringtone. Highlight that part by click dragging in the display window. It will highlight that portion. Once it's highlighted, go to Edit, the hit Trim. You'll just have the portion of the song in the display window.
    5. Go to Edit, then Preferences, then Quality. Change the sample rate to something low (like 11025Hz).
    6. Go to File Format, then Uncompressed Export Format. Choose "WAV Microsoft 4-bit" (the top one, not the 2d one below), and hit OK. The small window will close.
    7. Go to File, Export Selection as WAV. The popup window will give you name choice (make sure there are no periods in the name) and the type should be WAV. Save it to desktop.
    8. Email the file to yourself (you must use gmail or another service supported by the phone.).
    9. Open your email on the Treo (Key here is that you’ve already loaded your versa mail which comes with the treo – this app will locate your web-based email and download the emails to your phone, which allows your phone to load the attachments). Click on the file (or, more precisely, the little file folder next to the file) and it will “convert” it. Click on the little folder next to the song and click on “select viewer.” Set the choices to WAV and sounds. Then click on viewer to send it to sounds.
    10. Open sounds and set it as a ringtone.
Thank you so much. I have a 700wx, but my wife has a 700p. I kept getting the same message "does not support this format". I was chosing the 2nd one not the first. Got it all working on my wifes phone just right... Big question , which format do i use to play audidted ring tones on my 700wx? The ones I made for our 700p will not play on my 700wx... any suggestions?

Default Here's a new (maybe old?) one...

I have the ringtone I want working fine for one contact, I can select it, and it works, but after I sync, the ring for that contact goes back to the default system ringer.

I know there's prolly a simple fix, but it escapes me. I feel as if I've seen the answer before, but a search of this and many other forums has turned up diddley.

Thanks for any help. It was this thread that got me going on getting the ringtone on the phone and selectable in the first place. Many thanks!
