| Got it done the other day. Here's what I did:
1. First, I had been using Palm Desktop but going to Versamail and Activesync I need to sync with Outlook. I reinstalled my old software and told it to sync with Pocket Mirror. That moved all my current calendar to Outlook calendar after I synced one time, which had been empty. It also merged my Desktop contacts with my Outlook contacts, which required some time to clean up.
2. I then changed the name of the backup folder in Palm to backup.old, then uninstalled the old software, installed the new, telling it to sync with Outlook. Then I attached the new Treo and synced, moving everything onto the handheld.
3. The Active Sync/Versamail worked great with minimal setup. I can now sync wirelessly, either just mail or everything. I've been reinstalling the old third party apps one at a time; only one that has been a problem has been Launcher X, which caused a crash regularly; there is a new version that I'll get that uses the five way.
Thanks for your efforts. Things appear to be just fine. It's just a little nervewracking when you've got a ton of data you can't afford to lose. |

| Some additional info My sister had the Treo 650 and on Black Friday her purse was stolen, along with her Treo 650. She had insurance and they replaced it with a Treo 700p. Fortunately, she had synced her Treo 650 to her laptop the day before so it was up to date.
When the Treo 700p arrived (phone and battery only), all we did was plug it up to the sync cable and started the hotsync with her existing profile. Everything seems to be fine and functioning correctly.

| Can one have two different Treos on one computer? I am currently upgrading from my Treo 650 to Treo 700p due to lack of memory. Even with programs like PowerRun, my memory is in short supply. I would like to be able to use both Treos. Can one have more than one copy of Palm Desktop on one computer? The suggestions have been to delete the older copy of Palm Desktop and installing the new one. Can one have one for ID Treo 650 and a second for Treo 700?
I apologize if this has been discussed before.
Thanks for your assistance.
Cheers,
Graham |

| You should be able to install the new palm desktop over the old. Also, i think the desktops are the same tehy haven't changed.
Another thing you could do is change hotsync names. As long as you have different hotsync names you can use as many pdas with the desktop as you wnat.
I bleieve that answered your question. |

| FYI: I just went through the migration from the 650 to the 700p and followed the advice given here. My additional comments are: After the first regular hotsync COPY (do not drag) 1 or 2 applications from your previously renamed backupold file to the newly created backup folder, go to hotsync-custom and specify desktop overrides handheld and hotsync. Try out the programs, reinstall license keys, reset preferences, etc. If everything works do a REGULAR hotsync to store the changes you made on the handheld. Then copy a couple more programs from the backupold file to the new backup folder, got to hotsync manager-custom and set it for desktop overrides handheld and hotsync. Repeat above. The most important lesson I learned is to do a regular hotsync after modifying the apps on the Treo so that you don't ovewrite the changes you made when you add additional programs. Also always copy, not drag so that original programs remain in the backupold folder in case they are needed. It took me about 4 hours to get everything the way I want it but now everything works fine. |

| As a note to this, if you intend to install an installation monitoring application and you intend for that application to monitor all of the applications, you cannot install them via a restore method. Ben
