Default Using my SD card in Treo, laptop and camera?

I got a 2 gig SD card for my treo and put it in and started snapping pics and videos. I put this card in my laptop and it says it needs to be formatted. I know formatting will erase the stuff on it. But my question is: If I do format, will i be able to put the card in my laptop and see pics or videos on the card ( to allow for copying and emailing? Thanks for your help.

That is a fascinating question. I have a card reader and have put the camera card into it and moved things around without a care. My suggestion is not to take a chance - if it does not read it and you are able to use it in one of the devices now, then making it work in that other device probably means it will no longer work in the first one.

So, my suggestion is to spend a little money for a card reader, they really are cheap.

From my experience and from reading, it seems to be YMMV. I've got 3 different brands of SD cards (SanDisk, A-data and Kingston) I've used in my Treo and they have all worked in my desktop's card reader, 2 of them in my camera, all of them on my laptop's built-in reader, after being formatted on the Treo.

Rodzlla, just curious, did you format it in the camera or use it straight out of the box?

Did not format at all. Used it out of hte box. I moved my content to the device so I will not lose anything. I formatted hte card on the 700p, but cannot read it on my laptop. I tried formatting on the laptop, but it says the card cannot be formatted.

Apparently the card reader built in to the laptop is busted. I tried using the card reader I already had and it worked fine. Thanks for your help.

Don't know the age of your laptop, but I had a similar problem. I had a 512 meg sandisk that I never formatted, and I was constantly poping out the treo and slamming into my laptop's card reader. Upgraded to a 2 gig sandisk, and got all kinds of formatting errors on my laptop, even though it worked fine in the Treo. Tried to find an update on Toshiba's web site to no avail . . . . Bought a $12.00 SD card reader for the laptop, and all is good in Treo World once more . . . .

check the internal card reader's drivers also, sometimes windows craps out and you have to reload the drivers to make certain devices to work correctly.
