    Default Verizon Treo 700p "Alerts"

Verizon customers are probably familiar with the "Alerts" we get (little flashing yellow bell in the top left hand corner).

I've got my phone set to alert me with the visual and audio for when email & text messages arrive.

I've been consistently getting two alerts however that no one at Verizon seems to be able to explain, and I was wondering if anyone here can.

One is an alert that says "Suspended by User".

The other is an alert that says "Communication Link is not Connected (0x0109)". I'm guessing this one is referring to losing "Internet Access", but WHY? After I press the alert, the phone goes through the cycle of "Connecting to Broadband Access", but I never dis-connected it.

Any explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Well I think the one "suspended by user" means that the phone was performing a wireless sync at the exact time you directed the device to do something else so the wireless sync was interrupted/stopped. I used wireless sync for a while and then recently switched to versa mail when the update was released.

Don't think that can be the case, as it happens when I'm not even using the phone! The device can be sitting on my desk, and then it will "beep" and the alert bell will be "flashing", and when I check on the alert, it will say "Suspended by User"!

did you call Verizon and see what they had to say? Although I've not seen this before, I'd be interested in knowing what tech suppt says.

Got on the phone with a Verizon tech, who conferenced he and I with a Palm tech. (I'm not sure either one of them knew exactly what they were talking about!) Amazing the lack of understanding and knowledge of this device by the people who sell it, as well as the company that makes it!:gasp:

Anyhow, the concensus between the two of them, was that "Suspended by User" appears when Verizon's Wireless Sync is attempting to do a "Sync", while the device is not connected to broadband.

I can sort of buy this, because each time after that alert appears, the device proceeds to go through it's "Connecting to Broadband Access" cycle, and then syncs again.

I just wish there were a way for it to be constantly connected like a computer, and let it do it's thing when it needed to.

Oh well, the learning curve continues.

Hollywood... to stay connected all the time, go into Preferences|Network. You should see the Service: BroadbandAccess. Tap on the menu and select Options|Preferences. Check "Connect to the data network whenever the phone is powered on". Uncheck "Ask before connecting to the internet".

    that should do it...

I'm already set up like that, but even so, it still "re-connects" every once in a while. Bad signal??
