Question Voice mail favorites button disappeared!

Just got the 700p 2 days ago. Originally when I activated the phone application I could see a couple of rows of favorite buttons at the bottom. The first one on top left was a favorite button to activate dialing voicemail. I could either touch it to activate calling voice mail or I could depress and hold the number 1 key to activate dialing voice mail.

Sometime today that whole first favorite box went blank and when i went to the phone menu for edit favorites button it was blank.

I figured out how to make that favorites box read voice mail and how to access verizon's VM; however, I can't figure out how to associate the number 1 key as the quick key in the edit favorites button area. The best I can do is type either an E or an e in but then the alpha character displays as part of the favorite button description and that's not how it was when I got the phone.

I've tried a soft reset a couple of times so far but that has not restored the original functionality. Any ideas about how to make depressing the 1 key activate dialing voice mail without having to have the favorites button description read "Voicemail E"? I would really prefer that it go back to saying "Voicemail 1". Palm support guy in chat said to do a hard reset to restore original factory default, but I hate to start over installing third party applications and worrying about whether my data has been properly saved to the desktop.

Any advice? Thank you.
Lauren

Hi:

I have a 650, but thought I would take a stab...
With the Voicemail box you created highlighted, press Menu > Edit Favorites Button > Look for "Quick Key" and see if the line is blank. You should be able to enter the 1 there.

However, If you cannot make an entry, does it already list the number 1 as the quick key?

If you press and hold the number 1 for 5 seconds, what happens?

Steve,

I tried your suggestion, but the quick key line will only accept alpha characters, can't get a number in there. I have tried the typing just 1 and that puts an e in. I have tried typing shift 1 and that puts a E in. I have also tried the other button that you use when you want to access the symbols or numbers above the letter (not sure what that other key is called, not the alt key, though I tried that too). In all cases I tried it my way as described above as well as what you suggested, holding the key down for 1-5+ seconds. Nothing worked.

A key piece of info that I left out of my original post is that this only happened after I installed the trial version of the third party application Agendus Professional. I did associate that program with my calendar button, but can't figure out why it would affect the phone voice mail application.

Thank you again for your suggestions.

Hi Again:

Sure, leave out a bit of information like that.....I think it is reasonable to believe Agendus "took over". However, let's see if this works....

While in the Phone screen highlight the favorite you want to edit and press the Menu key > select Edit Favorite Button > make sure the cursor is in the Quick Key entry area > Press Menu again > select Keyboard > Use the displayed keyboard to enter the desired number to assign and tap on Done.

Does that work?

Now that we got the numbers to appear, are they actually working for you? After playing a bit more, I found that I was able to insert the number and the button would look perfect, just like the pre-installed Voicemail button. However, pressing and holding that number would not work. Tapping the button would work, but not so using the numerical shortcut.

It appears that the Treo program may be set to only allow numbers other than 1 to be used for dialing. I suppose that when a number is pressed the program assumes you will be dialing a number and not sending a "signal".

Perhaps something changed in the 700 so please let us know if the Quick Key Numbers you set up actually work as a Quick Key instead of just looking good as seems to be with the 600 and 650.

Anyone else out there have any experience????

<sigh>
SteveTaz

Actually, after thinking a bit more, I wonder if having Agendus installed will allow the numbers to be used as Quick Keys. If it interacts with the buttons as it did with your original experience, maybe it will help this funtion....Let us know.

I usually just scroll to an empty "favorite" button, click it, and then set it up the way I want. I'm not sure if you can then put it in a more prominent position or if it will be just stuck at the end.

Steve,
I had gotten some help on another forum too. Here http://mytreo.net/forum/index.php?topic=56817.0

Apparently this is a know bug in later versions of Agendus in that the first favorite field on the top left is deleted when you delete a contact from using the Agendus application on the handheld. That's the one that activates calling VM by pressing and holding the 1 key.

However, there's more to the story. I wrote you back initially saying your advice to use the keyboard worked, and it did, that is until I synced my device (which I hadn't done when I wrote you the first time). During syncing a file on the device overwrote my favorites change. Luckily someone in the other forum knew what file it was and told me how to delete that file, do a soft reset, let the palm rebuild the phone favorites and voila there was my original VM favorites button and pressing and holding 1 worked as intended.

Now my only problem is that I really want to use Agendus, but I am afraid that I will forget and delete a contact the way that activates this bug Wonder if anyone knows if version 11 of Agendus Pro didn't have this bug.

Lauren

Hi Lauren:

So, those pesky third-party software vendors strike again!

Have you posted your question in the Agendus site (assuming they have forums)? I would think those users would be able to tell you what versions last worked properly. I see you did post there and didn't get a satisfactory response.

I suppose you could leave your first Favorites button blank in case you delete a contact, but then you would have to remember to insert another blank one before deleting another.

I don't use Agendus so I am not sure how important this bug is, but it would sure make me think twice. Deleting a contact is a normal use of the program. I see you agree and have removed the program. Doesn't sound like they want to reveal which version this bug started in, or they don't really know. They also don't seem inclined to project when they will have it fixed.

I know they (Iambic) troll these boards and one can hope they will offer some kind of resolution or at least a projected timeframe for a fix.

Good luck.
