Question Was a ghost using my Treo?

I got off work last night and was driving home..... Had my treo in my cup holder like usual so I can see it light up in case someone calls while I cranked my music and tried to shake off the BS that is my job.... Anyway...

I look at my phone and the usual green light that was there a few minutes ago is now orange.... Would like to say red,,, but it looked orange.... Solid orange.... not blinking

I hit a button and then the center button to make sure all was well..... The little green arrows that show data transfer were on and my battery was about 3/4 dead..... Was fully charged when i unplugged to leave work.

Do not have Versamail set to autocheck any mail accounts..... have not recently added any new programs and this is the first time this has happened... So what was tranferring? hmmm.....

No other buttons would respond once I got to the screen.... basiclly locked up... tranfering something... had to remove my case, remove battery and reset to get it to come back...... All while driving anut 65 mph in traffic.....

Question is what would be tranfering if my phone was just sitting there..... What would cause it to just lock up? Im sure there are a thousand things... just curious..... Phone is about 3 weeks old and not really in the mood to go back and argue with Babu at the verizon store.........

    Any ideas? Ghost? Big Brother?

    Ramphog...

I've had my 700p almost two months and last night, the exact same thing happened to me. Around 7:00 p.m. we were coming back from dinner and I noticed that orange light. Everything was locked up. I'm not running Wireless Sync, but it was just like that. Finally, after about two minutes, the green light started blinking again and all was well.

I was going to call Verizon today and ask about it. Unless anyone else comes up with something, I'll give them a call. Might be a software update? Not sure. I thought software updates were only done manually by the user.

    What is this "auto update"?
Does it have to do with the browser, and other web enabled components, or is it related to the phone function? I dial *228 monthly for updates, is that the same?
If someone isn't on the data plan, can they get the updates via the web site and installation via Desktop Installer?

and always keep doing *228 as this update does not update the roaming capabilities its just for software and the main platform.
    I'm trying to understand this...
...this auto update will get roaming coverage and new erorr codes and firmware updates...
Okay, that is the same as *228, right?

...you dont need a data plan for this either what Verizon calls this is service provisioning which is funded by palm...
Since I am not on a data plan, is my phone supposed to say "Hey, Cheap-o, I need to go to the internet to look for an update"? I haven't seen this.
this update does not update the roaming capabilities its just for software and the main platform.
First, this seems to contradict the first item I quoted. Secondly, how do I get the "software"?

    Thanks!

I'm guessing that this *228 thing is a SprintPCS or Cingular thing, right?
I'm with Verizon and no one has mentioned anything about *228 to me.
    What exactly does *228 do?

I didn't know that the 700-series Treo's auto-updated like Windows XP does. Interesting!

Verizon service reps say on every call "make sure you dial *228 once a month to update your phone" (add new roaming codes, etc).
Bive it a shot, try calling them, ask them what time it is and they will repeat that speach.

LOL. Thanks, Haroldo. Seriously, though...I've talked to 3 reps since I've purchased the phone & never heard it once.

(Maybe I'm deaf and just didn't know it.)
