Default Web browser question

Hey, do any of you guys know if there is any other Web browser that can be installed on the 700p?

Blazer has been messing up alot for me, and on certain websites it wont even recognize some links

Someone told me about Minimo, but as far as ive seen, its only for Windows mobile

Any help?

You can install opera-mini - see the thread "Get Opera-Mini" in Treocental 700P forum - I have all the steps listed. Its a great browser - better than Blazer.

Copying and pasting here, only because I hate sending people away.

From Irabren's TC post:
Highly recommend opera mini - it is a much better browser than Blazer. Loads websites more the way they look on the computer-and faster I think than Blazer- see the thread ( Opera 2.0 Internet Speed ) to get it - but read the whole thread. Also read my thread How to get Opera Mini. You will want this !!!

Default How To Get Opera Mini
Read the whole thread - Opera Mini Internet 2.0 - shown in threads lower on the thread page

The Opera Browser is quite good - much better than Blazer - more clear and loads whole page. Definitely worth getting - you will want to use it instead of Blazer.
How I got it:
1. Download the java file :
Palm, Inc. - WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment for your Palm Device
2. Once downloaded and unzipped - open the JVM Folder
3. Then open the ARM4T folder
4. Select J9 JavaJMMidp20.prc
5. Select JavaVMCheck_envs.prc
6. Drag and drop to Quick install window or just open the above 2 files and they will go to quick install
7. Hot Sync
8.Download the j9secpol file -File Type: prc j9secpol.prc (find it in the opera mini internet 2.0 thread TreoCentral.com - Treocentral Freeware Exclusive: Hourly4Cast
This is a file that will stop java from asking you if you want to access the internet every time.

9. Open to quick install
10. Hot Sync
11. I would do a soft reset now
12. Download Opera Mini -(download to puter then hot sync )(VERSION FOR THE 650 )
Opera Miniā„¢ for Mobile
ONCE YOU ARE USING OPERA MINI - YOU NEED TO USE STYLUS OR Q AND P KEYS TO EXIT PROGRAM FROM MENU OR MANAGE OPTION. IT WOULDN'T ALLOW USING APPLICATIONS OR PHONE BUTTON - AND YOU WILL THINK IT IS FROZEN AND DO A SOFT RESET - UNLESS YOU USE THE STYLUS OR Q AND P KEYS.
13. Open Preferences
14. Go to Java
15. Set to 32 MB per page
16. Check: Double Buffer
17. Check: High Resolution Coordinates
This is a vastly superior browser than Blazer and well worth getting!!!!!
READ THE WHOLE opera mini internet 2.0 THREAD TO GET ALL INFO!!

Question Very nervous about Opera upgrade instructions...

I'm ready to trash the Blazer browser for Opera but when I go to the download site I see some things that worry me.

1. When prompted for phone type the 700p is not listed as an option. THis makes me think I may be about to replace newer settings with older settings. It also makes me want to install Java JVM first, but I already have Java - I see it when I use blazer. Is the JVM step necessary if I'm downloading to an out-of-the box 700p (this is the first upgrade I've attempted)?

2. Once I have Opera, can I unload the Blazer to save space or is there a good reason for not doing that?

3. Will I be able to import the bookmarks I have saved in Blazer?

Thanks - sb

Yeah that being said, do an internet search and i guarantee you'll see a million reports of how buggy opera is on a 700p. I know that it's too buggy for me and i went back to blazer.

Yeah - Blazer is slow, but it's all we got . I wish someone would just use the gecko engine or khtml engine and whip up a palm OS browser for us.

I agree with hungarianhc. As for getting rid of Blazer...it's in the ROM so you can't just delete or uninstall it. You'd have to create or get a custom ROM. To the best of my knowledge, there aren't any floating around out there yet like there were for the 650.
