Default Weird reset problem - only happens in Canada

Okay, this is weird, and I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas or has had something similar happen to them. I have a 700p and use Verizon Wireless. I live in Seattle. I have no problems whatsoever with my phone. I do not use internet or email ever - just the phone and PDA functions.

In January I drove up to Langley, BC, Canada. I did not plan on using the phone (as Verizon told me it would be 80 cents a minute with roaming), but wanted the phone for my schedule and for emergencies. I'm sitting in a restaurant, about 12 hours after I arrived. I was entering something into the notepad and it froze. Then it started beeping and cycling between the Access Powered screen and the Treo screen. Back and forth, repeatedly. All the lights coming on the keypad and going off. It would not stop. Hitting the reset button did not stop it (I tried it twice). I removed the battery for 5 minutes and put it back in. Same thing. After 30 minutes of this - I kept hoping it would reset itself - I gave up and did the hard reboot. It finally stopped and gave me function of the phone, but obviously I lost all the data on it. Unfortunately I didn't have the sync cable with me (and my laptop is old and doesn't have bluetooth), so I had to suffer through 4 days with no data on it.

I got home, did the sync, and it work just fine with no problems.

Last weekend I drove up to Abbotsford, BC, Canada (less than an hour from where I had been last time). I'm in the country less than an hour and I start hearing that awful beeping sound. I take it out of the case and it's cycling through the two screens again. Fortunately it stopped within a few minutes and seemed to work fine without my having to do any resets. I left the country the same day, and it's worked fine since.

Is my phone allergic to Canada? I'm wondering if it's something in the roaming that's setting it off - I don't think I've ever been in a roaming area since I bought the phone 18 months ago. I've had no other problems with the phone. I have not added any software ever. It's just bizarre. And now that I'm typing this, I realize I was in Vancouver, BC in December and had no problems whatsoever, which makes it even more bizarre since I probably can't blame Canada roaming for whatever is going on.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi:

The only guess I will throw out there is that the roaming could be a problem and the phone function is trying too hard to find a signal of some sort? Near Vancouver maybe you were close enough to home or had a strong enough signal? That kind of roaming will also chew up your battery quickly.

Suggestion is next time you are headed to Canada turn off the phone function before you get there. See if it operates fine as a PDA.

    Wish I could give more...
