Yet another 'Several questions from a noobie' thread - Treo Forums

I'm still waiting for my Treo 700p (verizon) to come in. I have several questions, mainly reguarding SD Cards. I'm still new to all this so if I have bad information please correct me.

1. I'm still a little confused about the SD card situation. Does the Treo 700p take miniSD Cards or regular SD cards?

2. Other than provide more storage, does having a SD card help with overall performance?

3. I did a little research and I guess the 700p only supports up to 1-2gb SD-Cards? Does it matter what brand I get? More specifically, I was thinking about getting the Sandisk ExtremeIII 2GB SD Card, but am I wasting my money? Or should I get get the standard Sandisk 2GB SD Card?

4. Also I'm curious about peoples experience with IM chat clients. I only use AIM and I was wondering if the AIM mobile 3.3 will work just fine on this phone. I only will be doing straight chatting (I dont need the support for attachments or pictures or graphics). Will it allow me to always stay 'on'? I've read about VeriChat, but I wasn't sure about the compatibility with the 700p and (like most people) I wasn't too fond of the yearly subscription. I only want to use AIM and possibly have a program that will always have me logged on if at all possible the majority of the time.

To #1, the 700 uses regular SD cards
To #2. SD cards can help with storage and performance. To elaborate just a little, some apps are fairly large, and running them from the card keeps memory free on the 700.
To #3. Palm currently doesn't officially support 4 gig SD cards, but many here have had success getting the 700 to recognize 4 gigs. If you buy a 4 gig card and the Palm doesn't recognize but about 1.8 gigs of it, you probably need to swap it for another brand
To # 4. I use IM+ on my 650 and like it. I can't speak for any IM app for the 700 and compatibilities. Verichat is very popular with an unpopular annual license. I know when the 700 was first introduced, there were some issues with Verichat and the 700P.

Thanks for the quick reply! So would it be safe to say getting a standard 2 GB Sandisk is enough and compatible?

Anyone else know of any other AIM solutions that work well on the 700p?

A 2 gig Sandisk works just great for me! Also, there is Toccer for the Palm OS. It is a FREE aol IM program. Again, I don't know about how compatible with the 700. When your ready for an IM program, check out the offerings here in the store. All offer generous trials
