Default 700 series vs BlackBerry - sync comparison

I'm wondering if anyone is using a 700 series (or other WM5) device with Direct Push enabled, and can offer some thoughts on how it compares to a BlackBerry with full wireless sync (on BES). For example -- on my BlackBerry, any PIM changes take place within a second or two of saving them on my desktop with Outlook. Email actually arrives on the handheld up to 20 seconds before it shows up on my desktop.

From a demo I saw of Direct Push, it didn't seem quite as speedy. If I were to change a contact entry on the Treo or my desktop, is it going to immediately update on the other end? And does anyone know why Direct Push doesn't sync memos, but every other Outlook PIM entry?

Does the 700 series password manager sync up saved password info over the air as well, or only when a device backup is done?

Thanks.

I'm still a TREO newb, so there may be work arounds I'm not aware of.

IN anycase, from experiences w/ my coworkers, they all say blackberry's push email is far more superior than the treo. They get emails faster than their desktop.

My personal experience is that's totally true. Normally, it takes between a few seconds to a few minutes to get an email on my 700p after i see it on my desktop.

The worst part is that my desktop (at work) has to always be on or the push email doesn't work for me.

If fast and reliable email is paramount, I'd recommend the BB. If it's not life and death, than the treo works well.

Yellow.

Does your company have the push email setup at the mail server or are you redirecting it from your desktop?

Seems very strange that you would have to have your desktop on to get emial pushed to your Treo if your company has this capability installed on the mail server.

Sounds like we have a YMMV (your mileae may vary) situation here.

I went directly from a BB 7100t to the Treo 700 with direct push. I have found that the push from my exchange server to my 700 is just as fast, perhaps even faster as a result of eliminating the BES middleman.

I think the issue here is the setup of exchange push timing on the server side. If not tuned properly it can lag.

My company's exchange guys are on their toes and it works flawlessly most of the time.

Looking deeper, it sounds like you're using Wireless Sync, rather than direct push.
