Default 700p v 700wx

I just bought a 700p from Sprint a few days ago. I am still within my window to return it and pick up another phone, and I have been considering snatching a 700wx instead.

1st. Is the Screen Resolution noticibly worse on the Wx? (IE MobiTV, Movies etc) [From what I can tell, I can get MobiTV, and not Sprint TV, and I will lose Fox News =O]

2nd. Does the W's use of Media player and windows programs increase ease of use for someone not familiar with a Palm OS system? (Im not familiar with a mobile-Win either, but have been using it on my PC forever)

3rd. Does the Media player in the W more easily adapt to media files? (IE do you need less 3rd party applications to do things such as use a mp3 for ringtones etc)

4th. Are there any apps that will thread text msging like the 700p does by itself?

Thanks!

EDITED, Claified some questions =]

I'll try and answer a few of your questions based up my experience with the 700w and 700p.

Yes, there is a noticable difference when you consider multimedia. I don't think it's as noticeable when using the applications launcher vs Today screen of the 700wx.

As a Mac guy, I had no trouble at all getting used to PocketPC. It is very desktop-like. That being said, I'd be hesitant to say it's easier than the Palm OS. One of the virtues of the Palm OS is it's simplicity.

Haven't seen one yet, but some 3rd party developer is going to make a few bucks if they develop one. I know there were rumors of the 700wx having this feature, but no luck.

...

Chris,
I'm an avid MacBook Pro user and plan on mac-ifying my home this winter to the point of probably only having one system running linux and everything else Mac OS X-based. Professionally, I use my MBP with Parallels for supporting development on Windows and Linux web frameworks (mostly Java and LAMP)... ANYWAY...

I've been using a Treo 600 for almost three years now and was looking at the 700w/wx/p series and was wondering how the 700wx and 700p might compare w/r/t syncing on Mac OS X.

What are you using to sync your 700wx and do you have any issues or problems with such?

Thanks for any feedback you can give, I have to make a decision by the end of the month or I'll have to wait another month (my business's phone support IT guy only makes orders at the end of the month)...

cheers,
Etienne

I don't have the 700wx, but do own the Treo 700w. After it was released in January, I spent 6 months waiting for Mark/Space to support Windows Mobile 5. As fate would have it, I "bumped into" connectivity when I received the 700p. Using the latest Missing Sync for Windows Mobile, I've been able to sync the 700w and Moto Q on my Mac. I'm using Bluetooth connections (as that was all Mark/Space supported during the beta). With that in mind, the 700p is by far the most Mac compatible solution. First off, it requires zero 3rd party software to get up and running. Having used a Treo 600, it will make for an easier transition for you. Software updates can be problematic on the w/wx for Mac users who are not running Intel processors. In your situation, it wouldn't be an issue.

I think you're decision is really wx vs p. The wx has double the program memory (RAM) as the w.

I enjoyed my time using the w, but the Palm OS (while a little long in the tooth) has had time to develop a more refined experience. I think we'll see more improvements on the Windows side with time.

That's pretty much the way I was looking at it too...

I've used windows mobile devices before (PDA and Phone form factors) and always found the "PDA as mini-desktop" metaphor to be a bit clunky in action compared to the direct access simplicity of the PalmOS model. Especially so with a smart phone... most of the time I want to make a phone call quickly... that's it... And get simple web and email access.

700p is winning out right now...

Thanks, man!

cheers,
Etienne
