Question 700wx - I've tried everything, but still cannot sync with PC!! PLEASE HELP!

I've un-installed ActiveSync, re-installed, upgraded to 4.5, downgraded back to 4.2, soft re-started the unit, hard re-started twice, and STILL my PC's ActiveSync window spins and spins, trying to sync for hours with no luck. USB and Bluetooth connections both yield the same (non)result. Please Help! I am losing my mind and - ugg - thinking of returning to blackberry! thanks!

I'm curious. You say you have bluetooth and usb connections going at the same time. Could it be confused on which one to use? Could the usb cable have gone bad? (mine did). Are you suncing with outlook on your computer? If so, what version?

I have tried both syncing options separately (just re-attempting the USB sync right now with all wireless/bluetooth options off). i have tried with and without internet connection on my pc enabled (would this make a difference?). i've also tried disabling antivirus and spy sweeper programs with no luck.
Could be a bad cable, but the USB is showing up as occupied by 'Palm Treo' under Ports.
I'm attempting this on a new Sony Vaio laptop, with freshly installed XP Pro 2002 and Outlook 2003 Small Bus. Ed.

one more thing.. i dont think i have been given the option to decide where to sync to, but am assuming it is with Outlook since the icons are the same (mail, cal, contacts, etc.). am i missing something? do i need to prep Outlook first?

On Activesync, under Tools, Options, unselect everything but contacts or calendar. If I had to take a guess, you may have files selected. Give it a try.

Whenever I have files selcted, looks like it's trying to sync for hours and nothing happens. I've given up trying to do this. I just sync calandar, contacts and tasks.

thanks for the advice. unfortunately i've tried this. i have whittled it down to even just trying to sync the calendar with no luck. i am now dumber for having owned this phone.
any other ideas?

Try changing the location of usb cable, plug it directly into phone (no cradle) and directly into computer (no usb hub) once connected, you can go back to using hubs and cradles. also, delete the active sync relationshi[ on ur phone. then sync.

where you connected with 4.2 before you upgraded to 4.5? If so did it work okay. If 4.5 is not rec ognizing your device is the user name somehow changed like an added period or other character deleted in your user name. I had two pocket pc's before I went back to palm with the 600 and now 650 and I always had trouble getting active sync to install properly It usually took a couple of long days on hold trying to get through to MS or HP to try to resolve the issues. Good luck.

You sound pretty knowledgeable about activesync so forgive me if I provide some very basic suggestions that helped me in the past.

One thing I always check is to make sure that "allow USB connections" is checked in the PC connection settings window. Open activesync on the desktop, go to files, then connection settings, and checkmark "allow USB connections".

Another trick is to delete your temporary internet files. On the Treo, go to file explorer, select my device, then windows, then temporary internet. you will probobly find a ton of 0 kb files there. Select menu, edit, select all, then delete these. Who knows maybe it'll help.
