Default Bad Reception with Treo 700w

Does anyone else have bad reception with New Treo 700w? I've returned the original I purchased because I thought it would be in my phone, VZW reps said the area was fine, all is good in the area.

I get only 1 or 2 bars in my neighboorhood and live like 10 minutes away from 2 verizonwireless stores. Any help will be apreciated. otherwise I have to return it and wait for the 700p and activate it with my original carrier.

I receive calls but bars are not there. Suggestions please

i get significant changes in signal strength while the phone is stationary (from full to no bars), but i can still use the phone without issue - calls and evdo data...i should definitely be in an area with full reception, and the phone seems to act like it has full reception but doesn't indicate it.

Default Ok here, but it varies with location a lot

I live in the San Francisco Bay area, in the east bay. I happen to live on the wrong side of a hill that interrupts the signal. As soon as I get to half a mile away the reception and signal strength improve. It was this way with prior Verizon phones as well. I just live in a pocket that is not served perfectly. But just about everywhere else in teh SF area seems very strong.

Question

Now this is something I don't fully understand... Why do we have to do this on a regular basis? Verizon says, "Dial this at least once a month..."

I just did it.
Got this:
Programming in progress...
SPL unlocked
MDN download OK!
NAM download OK!
PRL download OK!
Commit Successful.
Programming Successful!

OK, I know this is the phone code, but, what is all that, and how often do we REALLY need to do it?

The primary reason for *228 once a month is to pick up new towers that might have been added during the month. From personal experience, 99% of the time this has had no effect on me, but the other 10% of the time I close holes in my coverage areas. New towers are being added every day, and sometimes they help you!

Regarding the signal strength, I have actually seen an improvement in my house on the 700w over my prior LG 4500. I still get only 1-2 bars, but I get no dropped or missed calls, which is a big help.

you dont really need to do it once a month, just a good idea. all it's doing when you dial it, is reactavting your phone on the VZW network, and also it downloads all the new tower settings so u can get the best strength possible.

btw skipster.. how do you get 109%? :P
