Treo 700w - plugged a couple of different headsets into the jack. Fired up some mp3's and sound only outputs to the right channel. Wiggled slightly, still no left channel. I'm suspecting a defective Treo (just got this thing yesterday NIB), but wanted to make sure it wasn't a setting. Can't find balance controls anywhere, figured you experts could teach me a thing or two.
Thanks Kev. Still investigating, thinking that it may be a defective unit. I've tried different mini-headsets (from Verizon). The issue isn't mono-mode necessarily, it's more of one channel not operating - as in dead. I would assume that the link that you directed me to would enable stereo mode as opposed to mono, when mono-mode plays through both channels. Unless there is a 'balance' control somewhere, the 700w is going back for exchange. I'm hoping the next unit doesn't have something else wrong with it. Other than the one channel (left) not working, this 700w is the cats meow!
Ok, there definately seems to be a problem here. I hope somebody can help me?
I traded the Treo 700w in at Verizon and the same problem exists on this unit as well. The manager became concerned and popped a few other Treos out of the factory-sealed boxes. All of the Treos did not have sound coming out of the left channel! The managerof verizon (which happens to be at a mall) obtained several other brands/models of mini stereo headsets, all known to be Treo 700w compatible, to no avail. We even went as far as playing different audio files from different sources. Everything plays through the right channel, but not the left. Currently, I have in my possesion the Verizon Jabra headset w/button, which are the initial set that I purchased.
I posted the issue at Palm - unfortunately they don't have a tech support phone number. Looking through the forums over there, it seems that half the posts are not even responded to.
Is anybody else having this problem? Could this be a manufacturing defect? Or are the manager and I just overlooking the obvious here?
Please, if anybody can shed some light as to why there is no sound coming out of the left channel, I'd be forever greatful.
So am I to understand that even though the headsets that we've tried are in fact stereo, both channels will not play unless an adapter is used? I just want need to make sure of this (and the reason why) before I purcha$e additional sets.
Or is there still the possibility of maybe a bad run of Treos from the factory?
Thanks for the info/links, I will certainly give them a try. I'm still confused, but just to help me and others who read this forum understand, can you give a brief explanation as to why "stereo headsets" will not work, less the adapter?
