| Battery Life...? Ouch! Chris,
I'm interested to see if you've got any similar notes on this...
Today (after a full charge), I've got less than 30 minutes talk time, maybe 10 minutes browsing, and received probably 30 emails throughout the day.
I had less than 10% left just a few minutes ago... Very disappointing...?
Also, is there a "backup" batter or anything for the data that's stored? For example, on my HP iPaq, there's the "main" battery and then a "backup" battery. Can't run on the backup, but it will hold the data in memory... |

| I used the 700w pretty extensively - had to be over 30 minutes talk time and had email to auto retrieve every 5 minutes. I woke up this morning to an empty battery. Next time, I'll try and track my battery usage with minutes called, etc.

| I've had very similar results. I completed a full charge on 1/10 @ noon and now I have about 30% left. I'd say about 15 - 20 emails and a 30 minute convo last night. |

| Better results Well, I turned off Bluetooth, and I also changed ActiveSync (over the air) to manual, so, it didn't stay "connected" all day long.
Got better results, but, still WAY off of rated battery life. |

| and then it's get's better.... I use the 700 with Goodlink. GL is always syncing which was killing the battery, especially in low signal area's.
I email A TON, as well am always on the phone, and I was having to carry around a spare battery, usb sync/charge cable, as well as keep having to monitor the batt which was stressful not wondering if it would die on me.
I did a test one day and got about 5 hours (minimal usage) and it was down to about 15%. horrible.
So I disabled EVDO using #*#3836.
The other day I got about 10 hours (from 5am to 3pm) out of one battery, and I used it a lot more than the first test day.
I don't surf all that much and GL runs fine off the 1xRTT, and I can enable EVDO if I decide to browse. |

| yea I use my phone alot as well. especially the web and email, so evdo gets used alot. The charging is pretty quick, I'm usually either in my car for about 30 mins, or sitting at a desk for 30 mins, allowing me to get a quick charge in.
I can't say I've experienced what you have, although I'll be looking out for something like that.
One thing that did happen today is my phone automatically quit charging b/c the battery was getting real hot. I was using my phone as a modem on my laptop, and chargin it at the same time. It got pretty hot, but I just kept going. Although I am definately not impressed w/ the speeds I get when using PDAnet on EVDO w/ my laptop, I am pretty happy that this is a pretty solid phone. |

| I'm sorta glad that others are having similar battery problems, not just me....
I will try disabling EV to see if it gets better.
My battery tricks gleaned from years of PPC usage are:
1. Charge in the car while driving
2. Turn off Infrared until you plan on using it
3. Minimize email syncs when possible
4. Turn off BT until you plan on using it
Any Rev 1.0 device is expected to have some glitches. This one is no different, IMHO!

| I gotta say I don't have any battery issues. I get exactly what the battery usage says on the specs of the device. I get around 4 hours of talk time on top of my internet usage (EVDO), (I use IM+) IM usage, texting all day, constantly playing around with new software to install on the device. I recharge it every 2 days. I probably have spent about 2 hours a day installing all kinds of trial software for the thing to see what works and what doesn't. So far SPB Pocket 3.0 rocks my sox, and IM+ is amazing as an IM client except when EVDO goes dormant, you can't recieve IMs until it goes back to normal.
Anyway, I get great battery time. I talk a lot and text a lot, and I'm constantly playing with it since I got it because I love this little device so much. It's treated me well. However, I don't have e-mail updating on its own every so often, I have it turn off after 3 minutes, screen is set to medium brightness, the screen goes dim after 1 minute, I never keep EVDO running if I'm not using an EVDO program, and because of SPB Pocket 3.0 I am able to close programs runnin in the background when I press the OK button without having to actually keep down the OK button to shut them off. So I never have anything runnin in the background and I keep my screen dark until I have to use it, and if I need my e-mail, I can send/receive when I actually need to check it. No need to have it constantly updating. |
