Default Battery status and volume icon not in toolbar

I've had some success and failures with my Volume settings on the phone. For the first 1.5 weeks the only way I could get the volume (quickly) was to push the Volume Up/Down buttons on the side of the phone. At this time there was always a Battery status indicator on the toolbar. Occasionally, the volume buttons would not work (pushing them yielded nothing). I would do a Soft Reset and the volume buttons would work like they should. I'm not sure what setting I did or what changes were made but now I have a Volume speaker icon in the toolbar but no longer have a Battery status indicator.

This Volume speaker icon (when tapped) gives the options of On/Off/Vibrate and then the volume for sounds as well as the ringer. How did I get that on the toolbar? How do I get rid of it (so I can see the Battery status all the time)? Everywhere I look I have all options of "Show Battery status on toolbar" but the Battery status still does not appear. I'd like to do another Soft Reset to see if it puts this back to normal but I'd rather figure out how it got to this condition in case I want to undo it at some point.

    Question Just a question.

Is it possible this could be the result of a third party software option? I may have missed it, but I have read through the online user guide documentation, twice, and don't remember reading anything about it. I don't want to put a great deal of emphasis on not finding it in the guide. I thought the user guide should of included something about setting up your sprint email account to receive attachments etc. and I didn't find that either.

Cause from a 3rd party program is always an option but I don't think there was anything changed from before I noticed this to now. I did the Soft Reset but to no avail. It's not too much of an issue as long as I plug it in for an hour when in the car or when I get home but I get down to about 10% battery level over 8 hours with Bluetooth on and sync'ing email every 20 minutes and about 100 minutes a day on the phone. I actually prefer the volume icon as I use that more often than the battery status but I'd like to know how to get it back or alter it if needed. Not a huge deal right now -- just curious.

Hi Darren - quick unrelated reply to yr msg above - I did read your comment about yr pal in Auckland. I cant find that msg now tho - so hope no one minds me posting to you here. Auckland is also the city where I live. I'm sure he has told you what a great place it is - with the east and west coast only a matter of minutes from each other in a couple of places.

(Off-topic - Thanks to KiwiGirl she was able to find my friend in New Zealand from when I worked with him 16 years ago in US. Thanks a TON, KiwiGirl !)

I still don't have the battery status on the today screen and don't want to do a hard reset (soft resets don't help). This has now gotten me in to trouble twice as the voice is not real loud on "Your battery level is low" and I don't always hear that until she says, "Your battery level is critically low" and then you have 30 seconds to shut it down before being completely out of power. Ack. I'd sure like to get my battery status back. Harumph.

    Hi Darren
Did your volume icon come with 3rdP software - as I dont have it as standard in win05 yet my win03 frone has the options as you describe of On/Off/Vibrate etc
Uninstall that proggie if needbe and see if that sets things right. I'd be inclined to make sure all the files you want are synch'd to main puter then start afresh with a hard reset. Watch for any changes with every 3rdP proggie you reinstall.
If everything is backed up, its not really that much of a biggie to get things back how you want it. One of the reasons I ditched my Harrier PDA was that for reasons unknown it would do complete battery dumps (even after I bought an additional battery) so I would lose everything as if a hard reset had been done (that occurred perhaps once a fortnight) and made me really aware of docking pda and doing synch as soon as I sat at home computer (which is morning and nite anyways being the lil addict that I am lol)

KiwiGirl - I stated that nothing changed (3rd party vendor-wise) from before the Battery Status was visible to now that it is not visible. I can certainly remove all the programs from several weeks ago until now but some of them I have paid for and registered and don't want to have to re-pay for them again if registration is messed up (I paid for a copy of Opera Mini which is quite nice) but I might have to unisntall and then reinstall some of these programs.

And how *do* you do a hard reset? I've searched for it on here and the only references I see are "I called Palm and they told me how to do a hard reset ..." but they don't give the process of how to do it.

    Hi Darren
    Re... Hard Reset
You will know the soft reset hole under the battery cover...
While your fone is on, use the tip of the stylus to press the soft reset button AND AT THE SAME TIME press the red Power off button.
You'll get a msg coming on screen asking if you want to erase all the data. (You actually need to keep pressing the Power off button and Soft reset button together until the msg appears).
Press the Up button to confirm you do, and the progress bar will show.
The Treo has a backup battery or something to hold your info for a period after the main battery has died so it may not be a problem like I had with my Harrier ... that if the battery flattened completely - it was equivalent to a hard reset being done.
Anyways - hope the above info re the hard reset is of assistance.
    Regards
    AKG

AKG - Yes that helps for the hard reset steps. I managed to get my battery status back though don't know how. I uninstalled Google Maps (the last 3rd party app installed) and saw no change then after a soft reset I got back the battery status but after installing Google Maps the battery status was still there. I think this is the same that I had before (all 3rd party apps installed and battery status visible) so there is just some hang-up or conflict after a day or two or three or running some maps, etc. that caused the battery status to change to the volume icon. I'm back to normal again. Thanks all.
