Hi All

Same trouble here in Vancouver,BC--but only on the first call of the day--after that it works fine.I am about to return it after three months--Bluetooth with the Motorola 850 is another sore point.

Default Possible solution

I was crusing the forums here and found this post, wanted to see if anyone has had my problems...and you all have We just recently finished deployng about 50 of these devices (mixed between 700w and wx's) and here's what I've found w/ the mute problem..

It is a hardware issue, with the built in headset jack. One way i've found to CAUSE it to happen (dont try this, you'll probably ruin the device like we have a few times testing) is that..for instance...you take aTreo 700wx which ships w/ STERO ear buds and plug a MONARAUL headset into the jack, it will put the device into a state where it is "ghost jacked" from time to time, thinking the headset is plugged in for mic control. I'm pretty sure the reverse is the same w/ the Verizon 700w, if you plug a stero headset into it, its bad news.

Basically it creates a short or something w/ the circutry that turns on / off the headset, thus causing you to randomly not have your called party hear you.

How do you fix it?
1. use a can of air to ensure nothing inside of it is creating the connection to turn on and off intermtently

2. (this is how i fixed myne and i take no repsonsiblity if you damage yours this way ) but i simply applied pressure up and down to the headset plug while having it jacked in, then removed it. This eventually caused the device to realize "hey i dont have a headset plugged in" and i've never plugged on in corded ever again

3. get the device replaced under the manufacturer's 1 year warranty (regardless if its past verizon / sprints 30 day warranty, you should still be able to return it to palm) somtimes you'll get lucky w/ the cell provider and they'll do it for you.

Anyways, thats what i've found so far, decent phone, doesn't preform well if you live in out of the way areas...all n all i like it though

I work for a school district and am a computer technician. I received a call today about a user having problems with their Treo 700wx. After talking to the user, I discovered that they are experiencing the same problem that I am.

I can place a call to a person (whether they be landline, Sprint or other carrier) they answer, I can hear them just fine and they cannot hear me. I have to disconnect and place a second call, sometimes the second call goes through and they are able to hear me, sometimes they cannot. I then have to hang up the phone and call them a third time, again, sometimes they can hear me and sometimes not (the whole time I can hear them). The fourth call always works, they can hear me and I can hear them.
I can dial using four methods (touchscreen, keyboard, via contacts and voice command). It matters not which method I use, the problem still happens. This does not happen every single time, when it does happen it follows the above patter. I believe this to be a device issue because I also own a Sprint powered Motorola Razr and have NEVER had problems like with the Treo700wx.
I've placed a call with Sprint Advanced Technical support and gave them my story. They insist that it's a tower issue, I highly disagree because I can use my Razr just fine, then the guy told me it was because they use a different GUI... WHAT!? Yes, I've performed a soft-reset, a "take the battery out for a few minutes" reset and even the dreaded HARD REST.
Has anyone else been having this problem? Any suggestions to resolve this issue? Any idea why this might be happening?

BTW: a total of 4 people are having this problem and that's 4 out of the 4 that I asked (at work)

Thanks for reading this long tread

You are not alone! I live in Florida, and I have been going through this too. I have owned the phone for one year now, and my problems have began to mount. I actually took it into Sprint this morning, and they said it needed a hard reset and and software upgrade. They did this. On my way back home, same problem you described with the dialing. My wife has a Samsung on the same account---no problems. I called back to the Sprint store, and a different rep said it was a tower issue affecting everyone. "It should be fixed soon they said."

I have a different carrier than you and had a similar problem to you with 3 of my Treo w's that were found to be 'defective'. My company replaced them because that is the kind of insurance I had and finally the fourth one was a 700 wx and it works just fine. You may need a software update also. Worth a try?! Frustrating I know. When you find out the problem let us all know.

Smile I have opposite problem

Hello, first post here.
I have exactly the opposite problem, my treo mic seems very sensitive, the people I talk to has to hold their phones away from their ears because of how loud it is. I do work in noisy areas, but have not had this problem with any other phones.
Ideas?
Thanks
Ron

SIMPLE SOLUTION FOR A SIMPLE PROBLEM. If when you call someone and they say they cant hear you. Hit the speakerphone button on and off. Then the person you're talking to should be able to hear you perfectly!

Thanks, but the speakerphone is not on. I have improved the situation by taping over half of the microphone.

Ooh. sounds ugly.

What i meant was, say for example you call someone. you say hello? The person you call keeps saying hello, implying they cannot hear you. On the touchscreen of the incall menu. hit the speakerphone button on, then off again. The person you call should then be able to hear you. Hope that makes sense
