Default Contacts slow to load

My contacts are slow to load in my new Treo. Takes about 60 seconds to load all the contacts. Granted I have about 4,000. contacts in there right now. The thing is, my co-workers have the same address book loaded on their Troe 650. Those contacts load in a second. They are using the palm software verses mine which is using the windows based software.

I've called Tech support, but they told me to limit the number of contacts. This is not an option for us road warriors and the type of business we are in. I need access to all those numbers.

Is there anything I can do to speed up the contacts? Maybe a third party solution? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem...check out my thread:
http://www.everythingtreo.com/forum/...acts-5202.html

All I can do at this point is use the contacts function on the today screen - just starting typing and the contacts list will populate with the letters you're typing.

it doesn't search first names, though, which is a f'ing pain in the ass.

Out of the box, it won't search by company name either, however, there is a way to change this...I forget how I did, though...maybe it will come back to me.

Default First names DO search

Not sure what you are experiencing, but, the first names DO search. For example, when I just start typing 'trey' the contact record for 'Thompson, Trey' appears...

Can you search by first name from the today screen? I cannot. When I start typing in letters it highlights letters in the person's company and last name...first names do not appear. I can, however, search by first name and last name when I am creating a new text message or email, but not the company name. Sounds weird, but it is true.

Check out how the treo sorts contacts when creating a message vs how it searches on the today screen. It's not the same.

What I've found out is that you have two options here.

Go to Start/Contacts/Menu/View By - You have two options: Name or Company. If you select Name you'll be able to search by first name and last name. If you select, you'll be able to search by Company and last name.

I don't understand why they couldn't include the ability to search by all 3 at the same time.

Thanks for the reply's. I'm unable to search from the today screen as well. If I type in the letter T for a name that begins with T, it takes about 40 seconds before the list is populated. Only names that are at the begging of the alphabet show up. This is so frustrating. It does not matter where I type in the name, it is slow every where.

It really sucks that both Verizon and Palm left my out to dry, standard solution they gave me, delete half your contacts, even though your phone is suppose to handle 14,000 contacts.

Are there any third party solutions for managing contacts? And is it possible to get the palm software (which works fine) installed on the treo 700. I would hate to switch since I like the windows based system better.

Thanks.

I have over 2500 contacts...I am only seeing performance degradation when I View By/Company name in Start/Contacts. I have yet to see any issues on the today screen (View By/Name or View By/Company).

I have no idea about any 3rd party software- I'd imagine not much is available right now. Micrsoft's Windows Mobile website might have something...Handango might have something, too.

I'm not

Default me too with 650

I have been having the same trouble with a Treo 650. The contacts are extremely slow to load. It is since my last Cingular update that this has happened. I have about 400 contacts. Some are with pics. If anyone has any advice or knows of another link for the 650, PLEASE let me know.
