Default Desktop shut down and Treo 700w

After I use active sync and I unplug the usb cable from my 700 my desktop computer will shut itself off. No one at Palm or Verizon can help. I am using a Sony Vasio desktop. I have replaced the phone already and that didnt help, I shut down all programs before using active sync and that didnt correct it either. Has anyone had this problem and if so what have you done to fix it.

Try connecting to a different USB port on the PC.

If it's Windows XP, go to Windows Update and get the patches.

Try reinstalling Activesync.

When this happens and it shuts itself off, does it just go black like the power went out or does it go through the regular Windows shutdown routine?

There are several USB related fixes in Windows XP Service Pack 2. Try reinstalling SP2.

I have tried all of that, it shuts down as if you pulled the plug not the normal shut down. I will try Microsoft to see if there are any patches I am missing.

Thanks for the info.

I had a very similar problem. When I installed activesync it went through the first two steps just fine, but when it got to the third step my computer screen went to the "blue screen of death". It kept doing this randomly for several days. After almost throwing my phone through a wall I called tech support. (1-866-697-7256 for the treo 700.) They weren't sure what was causing the blue screen, but they did say that the activesync was not fully installed because of firewalls, popup and spam blockers, and other virus protectors that I had not disabled. After talking to a friend that is a computer guru, he said that the "blue screen of death" is the computer's way of "throwing up something bad that you gave to it". He said that a program that was incompletely installed is something that would be bad for the cpu. So you may have a firewall, virus protector, etc. that has not be disabled. The only bad thing now is that I have to disable all of it in order to activesync. I have a cable modem so it makes it very easy to get viruses. Luckily I don't have to activesync very often. Hopefully this helps you out. If not, just call tech support and maybe they can help you. Just one last suggestion...don't call tech support on your treo. They can't walk you through stuff while you're on the treo talking to them.
