    Default Email questions

I have a few Treo 700W email questions:

    - Have e-mail with Comcast. I am able to configure pop3 to send/receive messages but how do I delete the messages from my comcast server?

    - When I click on a message and hit delete, it automatically takes me to the next message. I don't want to open some of these messages as they are spam and I don't want to get a virus and/or notify the recipient that I have opened their message. Is there a way to not auto open messages?

    - How do I open up attachments?

    Thank you!

    Smile Some answers

    #1 - Sorry, don't know.

#2.- Open the messaging application. Click on the Menu on the lower right, then "Tools" then "options", switch to the "message" tab. Look for the drop down menu under "After deleting or moving a message": choose Return to Message List. Click ok to save changes.

#3 Click and hold with the stylus on the attachment link. It should either open up or give you a "save as" menu.

Default email - Deleteing / IMAP

#1: Of course you could log into Comcast web-based accnt and delete.
A niffty alternative (if supported by Comcast in your area) is to setup IMAP interface with your account (supported by your Treo). With that setup, your Treo folders will sync with your Comcast folders .... Treo deleted messages are removed from your Comcast Inbox (and show up in a Deleted folder). The only issue I have is even when I permanently delete from Treo Deleted Items, when sync-d with client (non-Comcast in my case), the emails will go to a Trash Folder ... the only way I can delte them from the client is from web-login.

I like this alternative mainly because it also saves my Sent emails (syncs with) on the web server. Later I can move them from Sent folder to the Inbox folder from the web client and ultimately retrieve all my working history in Outlook then next time it checks for email.

Dan, I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean by IMAP.

Also, I am now having a problem when I can't send. My SMTP is set as smtp.comcast.net

    Default Imap

Check IMAP.org .... I am not heavy in the tech-details .... I only recently setup my Treo with IMAP. I still use POP3 in outlook.

It may be that Comcast does not matter. I did not have to change any settings in my provider ... but I did have to "sign up" for IMAP. It may be normally "included" with comcast (just reviewing their setup instructions suggests it is transparent whether you choose POP3 or IMAP in you email client).

I use IMAP setup in Treo ... but continue to use POP3 setup in Outlook.
Just run through the setup on the Treo for a new account (choosing IMAP) and see how it does.

Enjoy the trail (and hopefully lack of error). Wish I knew more.
